Linda's Story
I'm living in Williston again returning in 2005 for a job at the Williston Head Start Program. I'd been away for 26 years and wanted to be closer to family, immediate and extended. I lived in Grand Forks for 11 years completing my education at UND and in Fargo for 15 years. I have eight lovely children ages 15 to 27. Five daughters and three sons. I raised the eight of them on my own since just before the youngest was born. My greatest achievement in life is bringing up these eight and helping them grow to be decent, hard working, independent, intelligent, contributing human beings. My daughters are powerful, assertive, compassionate young women and my sons are decent, hard working, kind young men. All are working and half are still attending school.
I had the privilige of having a nearly 20 year career in grassroots advocacy and activism working with families affected by mental illness. That career is my circumstantial passion. I've traveled all over the country and across the state of North Dakota working to secure and insure the rights of those affected by mental illne...Expand for more
ss. I still do volunteer work in that field teaching a 12 week class twice a year and referring families and individuals to the available resources that will empower them to effectively advocate for themselves and their loved ones. I left the Williston Head Start Program after working there for a year and now I develop pictures and sell cameras and I write grants for community nonprofit organizations around the state that provide a needed service and have the reputation of fulfilling their mission and using resources wisely. My chosen passion is children's literature and I am working on 2 books which my second eldest daughter, a gifted artist, will illustrate. I spend much time with extended family collecting stories and preserving them. I'm also collecting stories about my dad's 60 some year career in the oilfield something I stumbled onto while working part time as a night auditor at a local motel that housed oilfield workers. That collection may evolve into a book. I spend much of my time off work in the outdoors, camping and hiking and shooting pictures in the Badlands.
