Debra Jeffrey:

CLASS OF 1969
Baileysville, WV

Debra's Story

After High School I went to Charleston Beauty Academy took a year to graduate then I took my State Boards. I worked in Charleston doing hair for a while and HATED IT!! Wish I had realized that before I wasted my time and my parent¿s money. Started working for a Realtor in Charleston and enjoyed that a lot. I met me husband, Roger Jeffrey who was in the US Navy. Before long we were married and traveling the world. We had 2 sons, Shawn is now 37 and Christopher is now 35. Roger retired from the Navy after 23 years in 1989. We enjoyed our time with the Navy and truly miss the comradely of our military friends. We lived in Scotland, Italy, and Homestead AFB, FL 3 different tours, Fort Meade, Maryland, and Charleston Naval Base, SC. plus Roger was in Philippines, Panama, Alaska and the Persian Gulf without me. We have lived in Florida since his retirement. We lived in Palm Bay and Melbourne until 1993 when we moved to Tampa Bay area to be close to our children and grandson. Both of our sons are married to wonderful women who we love very much. I consider them the daughters I never had. They are both beautiful, intelligent career women. Shawn¿s wife, Lisa is the mother of my terrific grandsons, Anthony 18, Brandon 11, and Shawn Jr. 5. I worked in the retail field as it was an easy position to change as we moved from place to place. When Roger retired I was Retail Manager for Swimming Pool Chain in Palm Bay, Florida. I had started working there in 1987 and became ill in 1993 and was forced to retire. When we moved to Zephyrhills Roger started working for the Pasco County Juvenile Detention Center as a Juvenile Corrections Officer. He was working th...Expand for more
ere when he had a heart attack in 2002. Though he tried to return to work he was forced to retire later that year due to Congestive Heart Failure. Here we are 2 sick retired West Virginia transplants. What to do with ourselves. We bought a female alpaca in 2007 and we now own 4 alpacas and hopefully with another on the way. Roger works at the farm where the alpacas are boarded in exchange for their boarding fee. He goes in to do the morning feeding and clean up the pasture from the night before. The alpacas are actually what I think has given Roger back his strength. Besides they are the best therapy I have ever seen. Anytime I feel down or stressed I just need to go to the farm and spend some time with the alpacas. Amazing how much better I feel in just a few minutes with them. I highly recommend alpacas to anyone who loves animals. We are learning to weave so we can make different items from the alpaca fleece. It is softer that cashmere, warmer than wool, not scratchy like wool. I just bought a loom that I am learning to make rugs on. Roger is learning to make bags, scarves, and hats. All I can say is life is good. June 10, 2008 our Black Labrador, Shadow died. She was the best dog anyone could ever ask for. We still miss her terribly and our heart still breaks. Shadow was 11 years old and she was the smartest, sweetest dog. Our cat Buddy also grieved for her. Just thinking about her makes we smile and then cry¿I am sure some of you understand what I mean when I say my heart aches for her. Looking forward to the 40th Class Reunion in September 2009. I hope lots of my classmates will attend. Let¿s make this reunion the best ever.
