Susan's Story

I am now living in Brenham..gee..can't believe I am 62...seems not long ago it was 1962. My husband is Daniel Stavinoha..he grew up in Sugar Land..remember when Sugar Land had one movie theatre? He retired from Schlumberger and we bought an apartment complex in Brenham..where our daughter and her family live...we have 6 children and now 10 grandchildren..(2 sets of twins)...I always get to win the "Most Grandchildren Award. For someone who was so lazy in their youth..I am now like a workaholic...never thought I would be this busy in my older age. I still would rather be outside than inside...am still drawn to people with a great sense of humor...still don't understand why everyone has to take Algebra...and I think I was a better person when I had teased hair. I think about my parents and grandparents everyday...silently thanking them for all they did for me...I am thankful I was raised in Boling..surrounded by family and friends and a town where "everybody knows your name and the names of all your kinfolks." When I tell my grandchildren stories of "how it use to be"...they think I was raised in t...Expand for more
he Twilight Zone...open campus..eating lunch at the Savoy Cafe..remember Cat Tiner's hamburgers? And I think we should put some kind of plaque at The McCloud's place. I wish schools of today had the disclipline of our school...I think we all got a superior education at Boling High School...I think of all our teachers...and of Mr. Talmadge often. Who out there had Mrs.Shaw for first grade? I think of Ginger all the time...and remember Mr. Story saying.."Virginia Kubala..please tell the class the correct answer!" I think I am such a blend of the past..and present...and if any song could sum up how I feel...it would have to be that line from "Me and Paul" by Willie Nelson..."it's been rough and rocky travelling....but I'm finally standing upright on the ground...after taking several readings...I'm surprised to find my mind still fairly sound." I recently lost another dear and close friend, Margaret Mullins..which has only enhanced my belief that life is precious..and one of the greatest gifts we can have or give is our friendships that sustain and support us in this journey called life and living.
