Got married at Longmire in 1983 and stayed in the Park till 1984. Moved to Puyallup and opened the Sheridan Tacoma Hotel. then moved to Santa Fe NM in 1985. From New Mexico we moved to Snohomish WA for 6 months before moving to Bend. We have been in sunny Central Oregon (Bend/Sunriver) since 1987. The kids are now grown (Alicia 22 & Will 20) but still around; Alicia is a ranch hand & going to ...Expand for more
COCC and Will is at SOU and playing soceer in Ashland. This has finally allowed more time for our own interests. I am with USPS and Lani at the High Desert Museum. We live in a log home on the Deschutes River south of Suniver in the upper Deschutes / La Pine basin at 4200' and love it! WE live along the southern section of the Cascade Lakes Highway Tour Route (Forest Road 42) as it winds thru the mtns and lakes between Bend & Sunriver (100 miles). The mountains around us vary from 10,300' to the west to 7.900' to the east.
Life is good...
Okay! Wow! Déjà vu, or is it an epiphany or prior denial? Yes, I admit it, I am an addict. Addicted! Dependent! Yes, yes, yes and what is this potent drug? What is it that makes me so crazed and obsessed? That I just canât live without it! No, itâs not some opiate or mind altering drug. It isâ¦
Mountains! Mtns, Mtns, Mtns! Or why would I live where I live? It must be this mountainous location (4200â) so I can easily get my daily âhitâ of mtns., that I share openly my nearly exclusive western horizon view with a few other local mtn folk of Central Oregon.
I admit my years of denial, but for those who truly know me, they sense my mtn. obsession! Perhaps they ignored my preoccupation and attempted to look the other way; but in their heart they knew the mtns. were perceived as special.
Enough of this mtn. rambling; watching the snow drift lazily to the ground, this late March evening, I was filled with peace and serenity, knowing this was my place and my persona and the essence of my fundamental qualities. I have always found this escape to the mountains and the woods to be an essential element of my existence. No, Henry David Thoreau but I can truly embrace his spirituality!
Yes, I may complain about the endless winters but in reality it is why I live here so I can experience this unique high desert mountain environmentâ¦".
