Patty's Story

My husband, Roger, and I moved to Central Oregon in 1998 Had enough of the rain, fog, mud, etc. We bought a small 27 acre ranch just south of Crescent. We raise Black Angus cattle and have horses. We trailride as much as we can, but we have to divide our time for fishing, hunting, working on the place and our animals. Not to mention work. Roger has been retired since 1993 I was until 2000 when I started working for the US Postal Service as a Postmaster Relief. After a couple years I OIC'd (Officer in Charge) Chemult, Crescent and Gilchrist, then Chemult again. In Dec. of 2006 I was sworn in as Postmaster of Chemult. Never thought at this stage of my life, I would start a career. I really love what I do. As for the ranch, we have 29 head of cattle, but #29 is headed for the freezer soon. And we have 5 horses. We have harsh weather over here, but the sun shines about 300 days out of the year. It may only be for 5 minutes, but we get more than the valley! We get a lot more snow too, but that makes for great snowmobiling. The part that is hard is the minus temperatures we get. But summer is good, it cools down at night so we can sleep! Fishing is good. We are only 20 minutes from Odell Lake and Crescent Lake. About 40 minutes to East Lake and Paulina Lake. About the same for Wickiup, Crane, etc. May 25, 2009 We just spent 5 days at Crescent Lake for the Memorial Weekend. Beautiful weather, we all got sunburned. Fishing was ok, when we really tried. More fun to sit around the campfire and BS. Oct.6, 2009 - Just a few updates. We have been bu...Expand for more
sy this summer. Fishing, riding, working on our place. In July we went with a bunch of friends to the Strawberry wilderness south of John Day. Spent 5 days, posted some pictures to share. The end of July we went with our daughter and son in law to Ten Mile Lake over on the coast for about 5 days. Other than that, just been working on our place. Built a cover over our back door to keep out the snow this winter. This last weekend we got some snow, enough for deer hunting. Haven't gotten anything yet, but saw two good sized bucks on our property. Didn't get a shot though. This next weekend we are bringing cattle home from pasture. Taking about half to auction. Just got the first semi truck and pup of hay in today. Tomorrow comes the second truck and pup and Thursay will be just one semi truckload. We usually put in about 50 or 60 tons of hay a year. We added another horse to our herd. He's a 4 yr old paint gelding. What a sweet heart! July 28' 2012. - I don't write on this much much less visit the website. I do Facebook more. Since I last wrote anything we have been busy. Got rid of all the cattle and plan to buy some in the spring sell in the fall. No more cattle thru the winter. Two years ago we went on our third cruise with our daughter and son in law and youngest grand- daughter. We flew to Puerto Rico and sailed from there around the caribbean. Went to seven different islands. Really enjoyed st.lucus, st. Kitts, Barbados and st martens. The rest was just ok. Flew out of Puerto Rico 3 hrs before the hurricane hit and close down the airport for a week!
