My husband, Roger, and I moved to Central Oregon in 1998 Had enough of the rain, fog, mud, etc. We bought a small 27 acre ranch just south of Crescent. We raise Black Angus cattle and have horses. We trailride as much as we can, but we have to divide our time for fishing, hunting, working on the place and our animals. Not to mention work. Roger has been retired since 1993 I was until 2000 when I started working for the US Postal Service as a Postmaster Relief. After a couple years I OIC'd (Officer in Charge) Chemult, Crescent and Gilchrist, then Chemult again. In Dec. of 2006 I was sworn in as Postmaster of Chemult. Never thought at this stage of my life, I would start a career. I really love what I do. As for the ranch, we have 29 head of cattle, but #29 is headed for the freezer soon. And we have 5 horses. We have harsh weather over here, but the sun shines about 300 days out of the year. It may only be for 5 minutes, but we get more than the valley! We get a lot more snow too, but that makes for great snowmobiling. The part that is hard is the minus temperatures we get. But summer is good, it cools down at night so we can sleep! Fishing is good. We are only 20 minutes from Odell Lake and Crescent Lake. About 40 minutes to East Lake and Paulina Lake. About the same for Wickiup, Crane, etc. May 25, 2009 We just spent 5 days at Crescent Lake for the Memorial Weekend. Beautiful weather, we all got sunburned. Fishing was ok, when we really tried.
