Linda's Story
Fifty years! In one little bio! Here goes, about 1/10 of my life after Johnny Reb. Went to CU as pre-med, burned out and transferred to Lamont School of Music at DU. Went to NY, studied clarinet with Leon Russianoff, professor of clarinet at Julliard. He was also Benny Goodman's teacher. Had to come back to Denver, married my first husband, an alcoholic who shall remain nameless. His name isn't fit to print, but he was the bio father of my 3 wonderful children, Kevin, 41, Colin 39, and Kelly (girl) 37. I married my Soul-mate, Jim Kuehn in 1988, and inherited 3 wonderful stepchildren, same ages, boy-boy-girl. I love them like my own. Jim was a trumpet player and together we played in symphonies and music groups professionally. Jim passed away 9 years ago at the age of 55. You'll see him on my right arm, my second tattoo. We were also heavily into cats, working for a shelter in Las Vegas called Heaven Can Wait. My first tattoo is of our five cats we had when he went to the hospital.
You might notice a discrepancy in the spelling of my last name. It was Kuehn, and in my heart it still is. But I hated all the misspelling and mispronunciation and general garbling of my name. So I asked my stepchildren about changing the spelling for myself. They said, "Go for it, mom! It makes you no less a member of the family." So I had it legally changed to Keehn, so you can pronounce it Keen.
After Jim's passing I moved from Las Vegas to OK to live with my mom and brother, then back in CO to live with my daughter. Four years ago my mom asked me to take over my brother's job of caring for her and we bought a house in Pahrump, NV, about 55 mi...Expand for more
les northwest of Las Vegas. Mom passed away at home 2 yrs ago at age 92.
Shazzam! I almost forgot! (Very senior moment) I was a nurse for 15 years, worked in both hospital (med-surg and newborn nursery) and nursing home/rehab. Then i became a massage therapist, had my own business in Las Vegas until my husband decided he'd had enough with this earth. I've only given a few massages here and there since then.
Summery: My ballet career ended abruptly at age 19 after dislocating a part of my lower spine. I've since dislocated several joints including my left hip several times. I've been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (thanks dad), a rare or misunderstood disorder of the collagen. I now have a lot of health problems from that.
Well, if I couldn't dance, I could make music. I played professionally off and on before and after my first marriage. After Jim passed I said I would never again play the clarinet, but I can't stop myself from singing when I hear Simon and Garfunkel or Peter, Paul, and Mary. Or many folk or soft rock songs.
I'm now a mixed-media artist and make pet rugs. My DBA is Meowoof. My vanity site is The Oh! of Paper. I'm not allowed to write my websites here, but it's just as well. Both are long overdue on updating.
Lastly I'm the crazy cat lady. I only have 3 right now, Catabury, my picture icon, is my lifeline. He dies, I die. I have 16 year old Loretta and 4 year old kitten-size Siamese monster, Q-tip. No dogs, altho I want one and constantly have to talk myself out of getting one.
That's about it. I will brag and boo-hoo more of my life and excitedly listen to your life stories when we get together.
