Peter's Story

I live in Walnut Creek, Ca, 20 miles east of San Francisco. It's a great place to live. We've been here since 1978.I don't miss winter at all. Martha and I were married in 1975 and we have 2 dogs and a cat. The stork always seemed to go to other houses, so no children. I'm a self employed gift engraver and work out my house. I engrave metal, crystal and leather for everything from babies to retirements. It's a good gig. I sing in the church choir, band and with a 5 man a capella group. We'll sing the national anthem at a 49ers-Raiders pre-season game. Surreal. Other past things- Uncle Sam was my boss for 4 years with visits to Korea and Vietnam. All expense paid tours at that. After that, I lived in Belgium and France for 2 years as the friendly Arrow shirt man. Martha and I have become volunteers for Guide Dogs for the B...Expand for more
lind in San Rafael,CA. We are Breeder Keepers, which means we take care of 2 female dogs whose litters grow up to be guide dogs or some other kind of service dog. It's been very rewarding to see these puppies grow up and become the furry eyeballs for people to regain their independence and mobility. One blind woman said that people always come up to her and say what a nice dog she has. She said no one ever came up to her when she had a white cane and said what nice white cane she had. Ther are 57 furry grandchildren so far, with 2 more litters to come this year and next year. Our 35th anniversary came in February 2010, so we celebrated with a three week tour of New Zealand. Beautiful country and nice people. It's an adventure driving on the left side of the road. Very weird at first, but then it starts to seem semi-normal.
