Susan's Story
I married after completing 1 year at Corning Community College, have had 2 daughters, worked in a prison for 30 years -- Elmira Correctional Facility, as a secretary, retired from there in 2001, now work part time at a nursing home/independent care facility. I also care for my mother part time. I have 2 grandchildren - 1 boy and 1 girl, ages 11 and soon to be 15.
I love animals- have 1 old dog, and 2 cats. They are my kids now.
Enjoy camping, gardening, gambling, card playing, crocheting and knitting, travelling, bird watching and reading. I love to paint and wallpaper inside my house. Just finished a bedroom and hallway.
Hate to cook but try anyway. My husband calls my meals "Susans special"!! But sometimes they are not that special!
I guess I would like to be a reluctant optimist.
I was very shy in school. I have outgrown that but still am a little unsure of myself. My family has always been the most important part of my life.
I think I would like to be remembered most as a decent person.
I remember one funny thing that happened to me in high school and that was when a garter from my garter belt (remember thos...Expand for more
e) fell off right in front of Don Palmer. I almost died on the spot. (I worked with Don at the prison until he died a few years back...what a nice man he turned out to be.)
My hero was and always will be my dad...who died 3 years ago. He was a WW2 vet and a Pearl Harbor survivor.
My biggest surprise in life was that I never found the fairy tale life. (I know now it doesn't exist)
I can't remember much of my teachers except for Mr Along and Mr. Reidy and I have seen Mr. Along in the drug store and talked with him and Mr. Reidy's wife worked with me at the prison.
My weirdest job was working at an apartment complex and they hired me and fired me 2 days later and said they would give me an excellent reference...(How could they know????) I think they needed someone to cover a weekend and I was it.
I share my home with my husband and pets.
The one thing that I would do differently is wait to get married until I was older. The childhood memories that were best were when I was surrounded by family. I do remember at school sitting in the auditorium over lunch and talking with my 3-4 closest friends..Rita, Candy, Mary, and Sue.
