Lisa's Story

After graduating from Hackneyville High School in the summer of 1978, I attended Alexander City State Jr. College (now Central Alabama Community College) from the fall of 1978 until 1980. I graduated from the college with an Associate in Arts and transferred to Auburn University in the fall of 1980. In August 1982, I graduated from Auburn University with a B.A. degree in Public Relations/Journalism. Also in August 1982, I was named Editor & General Manager of The Dadeville Record, a weekly publication in Dadeville, AL. In 1986, my career took me to Millbrook, AL, where I was named Editor of The Community Press, also a weekly publication. In 1989, I was hired as Manager of Communications and Public Relations for Central Alabama Electric Cooperative(CAEC), Prattville, AL, a rural electric cooperative serving the electrical needs of more than 40,000 consumers in 10 central Alabama counties. While at CAEC, I won numerous communication awards from the National Rural Electric Association, the Cooperative Communications Association, the Public Relations Council of Alabama (Montgomery Chapter), and the Alabama Rural Electric Association. On July 13, 1991, I married Michael Anthony Miller of Greenville at the First Baptist Church, Prattville, AL. We have made our home in Prattville, where we are both very active in our community. Some of our activities include: Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce (both served on board for six years; Lisa served one year as Chairman of the Board, 1997-98); City of Prattville Industrial Development Board; Autauga County United Way Board of Directors; Leadership Autauga County Steering Committee and Board of Directors; Youth Leadersh...Expand for more

Besides my active involvement in Leadership Autauga County, I assisted with the formation of Leadership Elmore County and Leadership Chilton County. I have been a member of the Public Relations Council of Alabama (Montgomery Chapter) since 1990. I am also a member of the Prattville Rotary Club. In 2004, I was selected as the recipient of the Spirit of Spinners Award. The award is given each year by the Prattville Spinners to an Autauga County woman for outstanding community service. In 2007, my 18-year communications background in the electric industry took me to Montgomery, AL, where I was named to the management team of the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority (AMEA) as Manager of Communications and Marketing. AMEA is the wholesale power provider for 11 member cities, including Alexander City, Dothan, Fairhope, Foley, LaFayette, Lanett, Luverne, Opelika, Piedmont, Sylacauga and Tuskegee. These cities serve some 350,000 customers. At AMEA, I am in charge of all communications, marketing, and economic development activities and initiatives for the organization and its 11 Member cities. My husband, a native of Greenville, attended the University of South Alabama, majoring in history. He is a Residential Sales Team Leader for Knology, a telecommunications company in the Southeast. Knology offers high-speed Internet, cable and phone. Mike and I enjoy traveling, photography, attending sporting events, concerts and plays, volunteering in our community, and being with our family and friends.
