Greg's Story
Greg is married, with three grown children, two daughters and a son, three stepsons and two grandchildren. Greg's schools include Star City High School, University of Winnipeg (BSc Physical Geography, 1974 Gold Medalist) and Florida Institute of Technology (MSc Aviation Safety, 2014, Phi Kappa Phi). Greg spent 17 years in the RCAF, earning both Radio Officer wings and Pilot wings, flew commercial bush operations the north and Arctic for a while, then spent 16 years with Transport Canada as an aviation safety inspector. He worked briefly for Airbus and joined the Jamaica CAA as its first Director Flight Safety in 1996, building its flight safety department from scratch, then in 2002 became the CEO of RASOS, later to be called CASSOS, a regional aviation safety oversight organization serving 13 Caribbean nations. ents and two large aircraft hull loss accidents and numerous smaller aircraft accidents. Greg left that post in September 2014 to take up new duties as the Director of Aviation Safety at the Florida Institute of Technology where he will also complete his PhD in Aviation Science. Greg is qualified to fly the Twin Otter, DC3, Kingair 90 through 200, Boeing 747, Airbus 320 series and Airbus 340 series and has been a check airman on most all of these since 1995-96. Greg also flew for the Canadian Coast Guard for a couple of years on the West Coast. Greg has an accident free flying career that spans over 10,000 hours and he eats, sleeps and breathes aviation, having done so for the past fifty-three years since he left Star City seeking adventure after graduating from Greaves High School. Greg has many fond memories of the high school years he spent in Star City.
