Paul's Story
Graduated from college and went on to Seminary to become a pastor. Married the love of my life, Marlene, while at seminary. Walked out of the seminary with my classmates and formed a new one during our last year. Served some churches for about five years in Wisconsin and Minnesota,then trained to become a hospital chaplain at Mayo Clinic and served as director of spiritual care and medical ethicist at a hospital in Toledo, Ohio for 26 years. Also served as the President of the Bioethics Network of Ohio.
Along the way, Marlene and I had two delightful sons, and we now have 7 grandkids. After a couple more years as a hospice home care chaplain, Marlene and I both retired in 08 and moved to Minneapolis area (hint: 5 of our grandkids are up here). so, we decided we had other priorities than just working.
In addition to being a volleyball fanatic, I have acted in several musicals and sang with a couple community chorales. Up here, we volunteer at the Guthrie Theater, explore and travel, I play tennis golf, cycle, ski and otherwise enjoy life.
Recently, the we became me. On October 23,2014, my dear wife Marlene died from complications of a cerebral hemorrhage which was caused by the medication being used to treat tumor #6. The bleed occurred the day after we celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary on the last night of a Baltic & Norwegian cruise. While I treasure the many rich memories we made together, I miss Marlene dearly as I struggle through the deep feelings of loss and grief. Life has entered a new chapter and turning the page is difficult at the moment.
