Anthony's Story
Anthony Hudson (Tony) Hudson Sr. is head of the Inspection and Compliance Division, Assistant Chief of Staff, Environmental Security, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, CA where he has been on staff since 1991. Tony's hometown is Compton, California.
He is son of a nurse and WWII and Korean War veteran (Nathaniel Hudson and Elmiria Caldwell-Hudson) He attended Compton Senior High School and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in November 1968. After completing recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA, as a Private First Class, he served as an electrician, electrical equipment repairman, nuclear, biological and chemical warfare defense NCO, military policeman, fire team leader, squad leader, platoon sergeant, drill instructor, senior drill instructor, utilities chief, and engineer equipment chief.
While an enlisted Marine he served in 1st Marine Division; 5th Marine Division; 1st Marine Aircraft Wing; 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing; Marine Corps Logistics Base, Barstow; Marine Air Reserve Missile Training Detachment, 29 Palms; Weapons Field Training Battalion, Camp Pendleton; Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego; and Marine Barracks, Long Beach. He served in Vietnam from 1974/1975, and provided support during the evacuation of Vietnamese refugees from Saigon. He later assisted in the construction of temporary shelters at Camp Pendleton during Operation New Arrivals. During his twelve years of enlisted service he attained the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (E-7).
In 1981, he was appointed to Warrant Officer 1. As an officer he served in a variety of leadership and staff positions: Platoon Commander, Maintenance Management Officer, Engineer Operations Officer and Training Officer, Wing Engineer Squadron 37, and Marine Wing Support Squadron 371; Platoon Commander, 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion; Platoon Commander & Company Executive Officer, 9th Engineer Support Battalion; and Company Commander, Engineer Maintenance Company, 1st Maintenance Battalion during Desert Storm.

Warrant Officer Basic Course; Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare Defense Course; Reserve Police Officer Standards and Training Course, Long Beach, CA; NCIS Antiterrorism Training Officer Course. Captain Hudson completed both the Amphibious Warfare School and the Marine Corps Command and Staff College by correspondence.
Following 23 years as an active duty Marine, he retired as a Captain in 1991. While serving as a commissioned officer he was also promoted non-competitively from Warrant Officer-1 to Chief Warrant Officer-4.
He has received numerous military and civilian awards to include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, three Good Conduct Medals, and three Commander in Chief¿s Special Recognition for Installation Excellence awards.
Education: Associate of Arts degree, Azusa Pacific University; Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Administration, Chapman University; Master of Arts degree in Management, Webster University; Master of Public Administration, California State University, Northridge. He is also a non-resident graduate of the Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School and the Command and Staff College.
He is a member of the Federal Managers Association; American Management Association; Marine Corps Drill Instructors Association; Montford Point Marine Association; Vietnam Veterans of America; Disabled American Veterans; Marines¿ Memorial Association; Marine Corps Engineer Association and member of the awards committee.
Off duty interests: Attending plays and concerts with my wife; spending time at the San Diego Embarcadero and Balboa Park; watching TCM/Masterpiece Theater; Jazz, 1960's Soul and classical music; 1960's/1970's muscle cars; last book I read: Brothers in Arms by Kareem Abdul-Jabar. Currently reading: Rising from the Rails by Larry Tye.
Tony has been married to his high school sweetheart, the former Linda Ratcliffe of Biloxi, Mississippi for 40 years; Compton Senior High School, Class of 1971. They have two sons Anthony, Jr. and John, and two goddaughters, Brandi and Grace.
During his military career they have lived various places, including Japan, but their permanent home has been Oceanside, CA since 1975.
I always wanted to be a Marine when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a crazy idea. As it turns out, they were wrong.
