Rebecca's Story
After High School I went to TVI (don't think it's called that now) and took accounting. I graduated better there than I did in High School. I worked for while at a little place called "Betos" a Mexican Resturant on Central.
I married a boy from Sandia High. We had two beautiful girls (Heidi and Heather). He was in the Navy and we moved to National City when our oldest child was about 6 months old. The marriage didn't last very long and when I was almost ready to deliver our second child I moved back to Albuquerque. I had her at the hospital on base there.
I lived with my parents for several years. while working at an auction house I had a car accident that caused my oldest daughter (Heidi) to have a closed head injury. She was in a coma for about 6 weeks and was being fed by a nose tube. They had to take out a section of her bone on the left hand side and the forehead part of her skull, so the brain could swell and heal.
They were talking about putting her in a institution when she started to wake up from the coma. We were blessed that the length of the coma meant that she didn't have to have the pain of the operations or healing that she would have. After 5 operations and a shunt put in we were able to bring her home. She was 2 1/2 years old and had to learn to crawl, walk, talk, potty train and feed herself all over again. Her baby sister helped with that.
Heather was 9 months old at that time and had learned to walk while Heidi was in the hospital. Heidi would watch her and then try to do the same things. We feel that she knew that she was suppose to be able to do all that stuff and it made her try harder. Heidi learned all those things again in about a year. She had to learn to walk with a helment on cause of the missing bone but she was a...Expand for more
live and we were thankful. Heidi had to go to special schools for ahwile and have phycial therphy but finally was able to go to regular school.
I remarried when the girls were 2 and 3 and moved to California. My new husband was in the Navy We lived in Chula Vista for awhile and then bought a house in San Diego. My new husband was in the Navy and that was a God send. We got wonderful care for both girls and Heidi was able to get a plate put in when she was about 4. (As an added note, Heidi now lives in Oregon with her husband and two children - her step-son (19)and her daughter(10).
We stayed in San Diego for several years and then Bob got transfered to ther Long Beach dry dock. We were able to get base housing and were there until he got out of the Navy in 1979.
We moved to Idaho when he was discharged. He wanted to be around his family, can't say I blame him. We were there for about a year then moved to Hermiston, Oregon where his mother lived. We were there about 6 months and then moved to The Dalles, Oregon. This is where we have stayed.
Bob got a job at the Wasco County Sheriff's Office as a Corrections Officer. I stay home with the kids and enjoyed it very much. I also sold Avon. When the girls were in High School I got a full time job in Retail.
Things went bad in the marriage and we divorced in 2000.
I have stayed single since that time and have been having fun just dealing with what makes me tick after all these years. Still haven't figured it out yet.
I see I can still write allot more but my fingers and my mind are going numb. I know I have probably given too much detail in some places and not enough in others but that is what comes from trying to tell a 40 year story in just a few minutes.
Take care and have a wonderful life.
