Angela's Story
After high school I worked for a couple of years, then moved to Chicago and went to art school for a very short time. Then I joined the Air Force in 1985, did four years, got my GI bill, got out, got married, had a baby. Then I used my GI bill and went to school. I got an A.A. in general studies. My husband was Air Force so we moved to Azores, Portugal for two years, so I was a stay at home mom. I resumed my education once back in the states and got a B.S. in Psychology. My husband got assigned to Germany. I worked at Landstuhl Army Hospital as a medical transcriptionist while I went to graduate school. By this time my daughter was about 8 and my son was about 2. I graduated from the University of Maryland, European Division in 2001 with a M.A. in Counseling. In 2002 we came back to the states (Illinois, Scott AFB)and I continued working in civil service. My husband was assigned to MacDill AFB in 2005 and we moved to Tampa, FL. I worked at the Tampa VA until Dec 2006 when I left to work as a therapist in a residential treatment facility for children with psychiatric and behavioral problems. t back to the VA as a social science program specialist. I do mainly case management for homeless veterans, I help them establish permanent housing and I help them maintain their housing. I also moonlight in a residential treatment facility for professionals with alcohol/substance dependency. I administer psychological tests for the psychologist who interprets the data of those tests. My co-worker and clinical supervisor moonlights by administering psychological tests, he introduced me to the psychologist and they brought me onboard. My daughter is 19 and goes to USF majoring in chemistry. She wants to be a pharmacist. My son is 13 and goes to middle school. He is in AVID which is a program that helps kids who plan to attend college. My husband retired from the Air Force and works as a contractor on base. That's my story. High school was such a long time ago. I had a lot of fun but did not apply myself academically and I don't remember them as the best years of my life. I don't really remember too much from high school but I like looking up familiar names on classmates.com. I don't want to pay money though to become a gold member. I am interested about what my class mates from high school have been doing.
