Hello North Allegheny Classmates:
I am completing this information today because I am about to lose my marbles! Why? We have been snowed in since January 30th. :( :( :( If I still lived in Pittsburgh, the amount of snow we received would not have shut down the city. I live outside of, and work in, the Nation's Capital where no one knows the first thing about storm management and effective snow removal. Who would have ever thought that the Federal Government and AICR, my employer, would have been closed for 4 days last week???? And one day the previous week? I cannot even remember when my sons were last in school. Enough of that!
Now the good stuff:
I left Pittsburgh in April of 1985 and moved to Silver Spring, Maryland to take a position in the trust department of a bank that, after many mergers, became Bank of America.
Since October of 2000, I have been with the American Institute for Cancer Research in the DuPont Circle area of Washington, DC, as Assistant Director of Planned Giving which means I am a fund raiser and advisor to our donors, and the estate planning professionals who work with our donors, about their lifetime or testamentary gifting choices.
I married Bob Worley in the fall of 1985. He was from Columbus Ohio, also tranplanted to the DC Metro area.
I have been a single Mom since 1996.
I was blessed with 4 children: 2 step-children, Heather and Jason, who live in Columbus Ohio.(They are 36 and 32, respectively. Jason is married to Courtney White. Heather is single.) and 2 biological c...Expand for more
hildren, Bo and David, who live at home(ages 19 and 18, respectively.)
Bo is a freshman at Northern Virginia Community College(NOVA)in Annandale, Virginia. He is trying to figure out what path he will travel down professionally and decided to go to NOVA to figure that out. His Associates Degree credits from NOVA are transferrable to any college or university in Virginia for completion of his Bachelors Degree.
Bo loves music! On Valentine's Day 2010 the band he plays with, The Fielding Mellish, won a battle of the bands at the "Velvet Lounge" in DC. Pretty cool! Who knows, maybe he will be a "singer in a rock and roll band"?
Bo is an attendant and respite care provider for David, who has autism. David receives services(after being on a waiting list for 5 years)through the "DD Waiver" program, a medicaid supported program in Virginia, that employs, and pays, Bo. He is amazing with David!
David's education is provided by, and paid for by, the Fairfax County Public Schools, at Phillips School, also in Annandale, Virginia. Phillips is an "autism certified" school. He will graduate when he reaches age 22. The plan is for him to get a job at a company that employs individuals with autism.
Since 1992, we have lived in Cardinal Forest,a townhouse-condo community, in Springfield, Virginia. Our family includes Sparky and Precious, our two dogs. We have been members of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Fairfax since 1994.
That is more information than you would have ever needed to know about me! I hope that each of you is doing well on this journey called life.
