Denise's Story

From the moment I graduated high school I intensely wanted to know who I was and what the true meaning of life is. My 20's were difficult in some ways: I lacked in self-love and self-confidence, and drifted with no real direction from job to job. I was a college and vocational school dropout; I just did not resonate with any course options or curriculums. But my 20's were also filled with adventure. I met a man when I was in my early 20's who intuitively told me my life's work would be in healing. His statement has borne itself out to this day. It's weird: twice in my life now I've had messengers appear ahead of time to herald the coming of two important events of my life -- that of what my life's work would be, and that of my marriage to Andrew, who I am married to for 18 years now. I moved to California at 23 and lived in many places in the south and north of the state for 9 years, married briefly (4-1/2 years), had 2 kids, divorced and moved back to Michigan in 1987. But before I moved back home I stopped over in New Mexico for 7 months and did a 6-month training in natural therapeutics (massage and other related modalities). For the first time in my life I LOVED SCHOOL!!! I GLORIED in it, and was so depressed when it came time to leave. Since that time I have taken further education in my field in the form of intensive trainings that would last anywhere from a 2-day weekend to a 4-month-long training. I have been doing hands-on manipulative therapies for 22 years now, earlier on in a physical therapy setting, but for the last 19 years in a chiropractic office. The modalities I specialize in currently are the Rolf Method of Structural In...Expand for more
tegration (also known as Rolfing), and Craniosacral Therapy. I'm about to embark on learning a new modality come November (2009) called Visceral Manipulation to add to my toolbox, and I'm excited about that. These are very powerful techniques for helping people feel better in their bodies, people who are in pain physically, emotionally or spiritually. They are also catalysts for people who just want to live in a more balanced state of wellness and wholeness. My 30's were spent in the crazy busy-ness of being a single parent (until I married Andrew at age 37), and then life became even busier!!! I developed a real fondness for doing self-improvement seminars and became a "workshop junkie." My 40's were more of the same, until my kids left home. I was 49 when I graduated from parenting! My kids live out-of-state. Shanti, age 30 (can you believe it???), lives in North Carolina and is a grade school teacher by day and graduate student by night, soon to finish her Masters in Educational Administration. She wants to be a grade school principal. She's also getting married on New Year's Eve of this year (2009). Magena, age 26, is a restaurant server and going to college to get a degree in Psychology. She's always had this uncanny ability to read people. She lives in California and has become a surfer girl as of late. In some ways I feel like I'm back in my early twenties not knowing what to do with the rest of my life. I'm in a time of re-evaluation of my life, and inner transformation. At the moment, life is quiet and filled with simple pleasures spent alone, with my husband, or with family and friends. Overall, my life is full of amazing grace.
