Duane's Story
If you remember I dropped out of school in the 12th grade and went into the Navy. That was a stupid thing to do, not the Navy but dropping out of school. I went on to get my diploma and got out of the Navy in 1963. Met my future wife in 1962 and got married in 1965. Can you believe it, I joined the Navy to see the world and got stationed at Treasure Island San Francisco, Ca. I stayed in California mostly Sacramento Area so my wife could be close to her family. I did miss OKC but I didn't want my wife to be lonely and miss her family. Worked in construction for many years. Later became a Police Officer with the California Highway Patrol. I resigned my position after to many close calls. Made my wife worry to much. I went back into construction for a few years then went back to the Highway Patrol as a dispatcher. Didn't like that. Had an opportunity to be an Automotive mechanic for the Patrol. Finished my career and retired. Before retiring I was Involved in a bad automobile accident. A guy ran a red light in front of me and I was unable to stop in time. Totaled my patrol car and messed me up pretty bad. After that it left me with some memory problems. I retired in 2005 and moved to Missouri. I wanted to move to OKC but my oldest daughter asked me to move to Missouri and the could move there also. Her husband could transfer there. I agreed and we moved there in 2005. We live in Harrisonville Mo. At least I am closer to OKC. I have 6 children, my oldes...Expand for more
t daughter Shannon is 36 years old and living in Lees Summit, Mo., my next daughter is Kelly 32 years old and living in Sacramento, Ca. I later adopted my daughter Melanie who is 18 years old and going to Northwest Missouri State University and then adopted her brother Adam who is 19 years old and in the Air Force. 12 years ago we adopted newborn twins 5 days old. They are Cody and his sister Cassie. Looks like we will have children in our home until the day We die, but who cares, they are joy to have around, They keep us young and busy. I am hoping my daughter Kelly will move back soon. Her husband is looking for a job at a college back here where he can teach Physical Education and coach girls basketball. I also have 8 grand children. I like to have my family close. We always have everyone at our house for dinner every Sunday after church. We will be moving to Lees Summit Mo. this summer to be closer to my daughter Shannon, her husband and our grand children. I would Still like to move to OKC, maybe someday.
It has been so long 50 years, that it is hard to remember. The memory is not so good. I borrowed my cousin Delbert McCullough's 1960 yearbook and have been looking through it. I have seen a few familiar faces including yours. Who are some of the people you hung around. What classes did you have in the 11th grade. I mostly hung around with my cousin Delbert. Well I guess I have just about covered everything. Will talk later.
