Yolanda's Story

I am a unique blend of artistic talents that contain musical content. I was born in San Diego, CA, and reared as a military brat. By my father being in the USN, it allowed me to travel to numerous, exciting places. Upon arrival to each state, I quickly became the center of attention! I was: the DJ because I had all of the latest music, rapper/break-dancer, because I loved emulating my older brother, the comedian, because through travel I had acquired various stories that were true and hilarious, and the impressionist because I would emulate stars from television by using their facial expressions and kinesics to hit their notes to the point of perfection. Since I had this bottled energy, my parents put me in the church choir. I was so obnoxiously loud and animated, they eventually made me one of the lead soloist. This spiritual practice allowed me to hear myself with others which made me more attentive of this god given gift. I was not just singing in the shower any longer this performance was before the Lord with an audience! The more I sang, the better I became. I learned pitch, tone, quality, range, articulation, breathing, and the mood of music. As a teenager I would join contest and coordinate local talent shows at the YMCA and local recreation centers. As a young adult I joined the Navy and traveled. I was in contests, talent shows, local bands, and I would open shows for other performers. roductions. This Management team was subcontracted by Death Row Records. I also worked with Cozy and Torcha chamber productions in Los Angeles. This was at the time when the local group Deuce Deuce was big. I was offered a contract by Death Row but the name and the artists made me feel uneasy so I declined. I was to go over seas to sing American songs, become a hit, come back and get signed. That Idea was to no avail. I continued to sing in bands and sung Karaoke until I was blue in the face! At the same time I was a participant in numerous events. I was honorably discharged from the military and moved to Mississippi to be with my parents. I was partaking in the same activities, but this time I was singing in my father¿s church. To make a long story a little bit shorter, I got married. After 8 years of misery, I am now divorced! I have no children so I figured there was nothing stopping me from pursuing my dream of the arts. I come from a musical family! There is not one relative that cannot sing, act, draw, tells jokes or play an instrument. I look at music as a mother looks at her new born child; with deep love. Music tames the savage beast, it soothes the soul, and it allows people to reminisce and relate. I have traveled from state to state in pursuit of my dreams. I truly feel that it is my time to shine!
