Carol's Story
Hey Badger Friends,
It has been such a long time! Hard to believe all that's happened since we last saw one another.
After moving to Phoenix as a newlywed (let's not go there) in l972, I divorced in '79 and returned to Williams Bay.
In 1982, I remarried and moved to Yankton, SD. A year earlier, we decided to purchase a golf bag business, which was the reason for the move. In some ways, the need to leave WI was difficult for me because I was so happy to be back in the Lake Geneva area after being away for several years.
As a self-professed "late bloomer," I decided at 27 to enroll at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Balancing the responsibility of raising my daughter, Alicia, studying, and working in our business kept me extremely busy during the years we were in SD.
In l989, we sold our golf bag business and moved to Charlottesville, VA. We fell in love with C'ville while there on vacation a year earlier. While staying at this amazing inn (the house was owned by Thomas Jefferson's daughter in the la...Expand for more
te 1700's), we discovered a neighboring home for sale, purchased it on a whim, converted it into a Bed & Breakfast, and named it The Inn at Monticello, due to its close proximity to Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello. I can see why the slogan for the VA Board of Tourism used to be "Virginia is For Lovers!" Without a doubt, Virginia is the most beautiful state in the nation.
The years owning and operating The Inn at Monticello were the happiest ever. Commuted to Fredericksburg, VA while running the Inn and FINALLY graduated with a degree in American Studies in l996. Would someone PLEASE tell me just what I was thinkin when I decided on this degree??? Actually, it was a fascinating program.
Sold the Inn in l996 and eventually made my way to Madison where I sold real estate for a couple years, then moved to Northern Wisconsin (Mercer), and sold recreational homes there for many years.
I am now living in Philadelphia and pursuing a Nursing degree.
Looking forward to hearing your news.
All the best,
Carol
