Connie's Story
Life After Buckhead Academy
Well, I got married in 1975 and moved to Jacksonville Florida in 1976... I've been here ever since.
Fast forward to 1992 - I remarried to a wonderful man named Don.
Family: I have 2 girls from my first marriage and Don had 2 boys and a girl from his first marriage, so we have a total of 5 children. Don had the courage to take on the teenage years again with my children as his children were grown and out of the house when we married. We currently have 5 grandchildren (1 girl, 4 boys). We will soon have a new addition to the family as my oldest daughter is getting married in May of 2010.
WORK:
I just celebrated my 33rd anniversary at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida. I am looked upon as an oddity by the younger generation as no one stays in one job for that length of time. I'm targeting retirement in August, 2011. It will be first time you will here me say that I am glad I am 55 years old!
YEAH RETIREMENT!
LIFE AFTER WORK:
When I retire, I will have worked in the health insurance industry for 35 years. It is time for change.

. Mia has become a wonderful addition to our family. My goal is to go through Pet Therapy dog certification and R.E.A.D certification. This way we can visit hospitals and retirement homes. READ is a program where you go into the school and work with the kids on their reading (READING EDUCATION ASSISTANCE DOG). Our church has partnered with a school where 70% of the children qualify for either a reduced or free lunch. I hope to be able to get certified as a READ team with Mia and go into the school to work with those children to help them read better.
A TOUCH OF GLASS:
This is our sideline Custom Stain Glass business. We have be in business for about 7 years, but have been trained in the art form since 1994. Don and I can do custom design/build of stain glass pieces. We had a good business going in the historical area of Jacksonville due to folks restoring the old homes. However, due to the housing slump/economy, our business has dropped way off this year. Good thing it doesn't feed us at the moment...
That is pretty much it. Between work, church and some traveling, we lead a quite life at the moment.
