Debra's Story
Wow! So many years ago! How a person can change as they grow older and wiser. I've been married for 31 years to the most wonderful man. We have a daughter who just turned 30. (I still can't believe my baby is 30), and we have 2 beautiful grandchildren, ages 11 and 4. My official title now is Nana!! I have worked almost all of my married life. My husband became disabled at the age of 31. Our daughter was only 7, so that left me as sole provider. I have enjoyed the jobs I have had, only moving to a new opportunity if it meant a better life for me and my family. I have been sick alot during those years. I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus when I was 36 and Fibromyalgia shortly there after. A list of other health problems came along later and consistently. can do and feel blessed that I have more time with my family. My dad died suddenly in 2002. He was in his seventies. Three weeks later I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. I was one of the lucky ones. I went though the chemo and radiation and the cancer was gone. Non-Hodgkins is treatable, not curable and I live in fear that it will come back. I want to see my babies grow up and hopefully go to college, marry and give me some Greatgrands! My husband and I live in a two story log home on 6 acres of land. Ten years ago, his parents retired and are now living on our back two acres. And no, it's not like 'Everybody Loves Raymond'!! My husband and I have many hobbies and interests, so life is never boring even though I am put on bedrest alot and can't be outside in the sun.
Since leaving Keenan, life has been interesting in many different ways. The past 31 years have been the best though. I wouldn't trade them for anything.
