John's Story

Life Spent 9 years between the Army/AR/CA-ARNG. I new if I re-enlisted again I'd end up spending at least 20 years in the service. My favorite unit was the 4/498th Med. Co. (a Dustoff unit). It was my first assignment, I arrived as a kid and spent two years there. When I left, I'm sad to say I was still a kid... A lot of the lessons I should have learned didn't come until later in life. We mostly had a good group of guys in that unit: Sgt. Chad St. Francis, SSG Stallworth, Mr. Lee, Mr. Olson, Cpt. Smathers, Mr. Gaither, SPC Ken King, SPC Allen, Maj. Turner, SGT Vick, and a bunch of other names I should remember but can't at the moment. If any of you should ever read this drop me a note at john at jmlivingston dot com. School School? Whew, there were a lot of them. While I was only in Big Pine for a year and a half before graduating it's the one school with a lot of good memories. Of the schools I attended during my teenage years it was by far the best; not only in terms of the quality of ins...Expand for more
truction but the other students as well. As a teen that bounced around through 4 schools between grades 9-12 it was refreshing to find BPHS; a place that I quickly grew fond of. Like half the school, when I graduated I was one of those looking to escape and spent 9+ years in the Military. Now I look back and I'm trying to figure out what the heck was I thinking? What I'd give to be able to go back and spend my life somewhere in the Owens Valley. I have lots of fond memories of some of the teachers like the Soler's (loved Joe's Psych class, and his classic red Porsche!), Ms. Fabian/Bayliss, and Mrs. Nolen (even if she threw me out of Bio II, her classes and instruction led to my choosing to be a Medic while in the Army.). Wasn't the name of the Drafting instructer Mr. Dean? And of course Coach Brown and our incredible basketball team of '86-'87! What was our final record before we were defeated in playoff's, something like 24-0 as I recall? Wow, I'll bet they haven't had as good a record since.
