Bonnie's Story

Life Have been living in New Mexico since '73. Married in '77. Son, Emmet, born in 1979; he graduated from HMS in '99. Have had tons of fun being an archaeologist (before and after a degree from the University of New Mexico) for decades, working throughout the Southwest and in France. Knees gone for good, so am back to thinking and research: theory, collapse of complex societies, economic anthropology and the bases of ideologies, complexity, etc. Being a gadfly in this stuff gives me the excuse to attend professional meetings in interesting places and look at archaeology, e.g., rode Bedouin horses down through Petra, Jordan, and an energy/societies meeting in Turin which gave me an excuse to skip over to Milan and hear Puccini at La Scala. A lifelong dream. With my connection to the Collapse of Complex Societies I got peripheral schmoozing w/the incredible young people involved with Leonardo deCaprio's documentary, "The 11th Hour." esent, but have acquired a Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite (my dad had the Big Healey which ruined me for any other car) and a daily-driver '65 Austin-Healey 3000 that is wicked good fun and one of the most beautiful cars ever designed. These have given me an excuse to put on an all-British car show at our local Highland Games. Still driving a serious 4WD down into Canyonlands and the San Juan River. Update: recent trips to scientific meetings include one month in China (including visiting much archaeology and team-teaching w/grad students at Beijing Normal University) and another trip to Sweden--currently my favorite country. Also got to a brief professional meeting in the Midlands in September 2013 but scampered off to Orkney to look at the incredible archaeology and take a lesson in driving a pair of horses. Update 2014: owing to fortuitous find of a Morgan gelding a couple of years ago in idaho/Utah, am back in the horse scene. Ride/drive everywhere, mountains, on Georgia O'Keefe's old Ghost Ranch, giving demos, lessons to handicapped kids. Am currently serving humbly on the board of the New Mexico Horse Council.
