Heather's Story
Life
Had an amazing sprint... lived in California, England, Arizona, Florida, Texas, California (again!), South Carolina and now back in Texas (again again!). Had delightful opportunities to travel to exciting places on many continents, and show no sign of slowing. It's been such a fun ride with all my friends, and I somehow managed to piece together a pretty sweet IT career in the background. Remain dedicated not just to making a living, but to having a REAL LIFE, and staying playful. In the immortal words of Andre Maurois, "Growing old is no more than a bad habit which a busy person has no time to form." :)
School
High school gets a bad rap, but I sure did have a blast. I'll always cherish the memories of Spieg & the drama crew, the Bench Gang... Looking back, I feel lucky for having had such a great social circle and have NO idea how I found time to study so much when I was having such fun, especially while being distracted by every concert imaginable. What a great music scene we had in the late 80s! But what were we thinking with those clothes?! Did I really wear animal print spandex? ...Expand for more

College
College was such a great ride... had stimulating experiences in 3 different major areas, getting my undergraduate degrees at the private Mills College in California and also splitting time at the University of London. Living abroad was the most amazing experience of my early 20s -- wouldn't trade those years for anything, and would definitely do it all over again. Many of the friends I made during the college years are now turning out to be lifelong buddies, and that was worth way more than that piece of paper they handed me.
Workplace
WORK? Who in the world wants to know what I'm doing at WORK? Well okay, I've worked for 3 large corporations, 2 mid-sized companies and experimented with contract jobs in the tech field... I stayed at Oracle Corp. the longest, but enjoyed a smaller semiconductor company the most. Overall, Americans are way too hung up on careers. I've had a pretty great one with a few ups and downs, but it doesn't define me or determine my path. Now killing time at another corporation who designs software for financial institutions.
