Edward's Story

Life Did my early schooling in Worcester and Auburn Mass. and went on to Auburn High. Left school early...senior year...and joined the Air Force. (Got my GED while in the service.) Took basic training at Shepard and Lackland bases in Texas. Stayed in the Air Force until 1959, ending up at what is now Vandenberg Air Force Base. Went into broadcasting...radio back then...and then into TV and radio combined. Most of that work in Santa Barbara. CA. Hung around with the teen aged guys in South Worcester. Still would like to contact Herbie Perks, Richard Hosegood, Bob Lavalee, George Bennett, Ernest Hebert, Bob Townsend....all the gang from the mid-1940's to 1950. Many of us joined the Air Force when the Korean War broke out...leaving Worcester in July of 1950. We all wanted to go to Korea, and, by golly, they obliged us. Lived on Warwick St. and then on Tracy Place while in Auburn/Worcester. Hung arou...Expand for more
nd over on Hope Avenue and at the diner on Southbridge St....the YD diner. Worked in So. Terminal Market for the late Sid Haigh....across from the Leland-Gifford defense factory. Cousins nearby were Bob and Eddie Delage. Played baseball in the old field next to Roy's Market and near Oscar Roberts' Gulf gas station on Southbridge St. This is all just off the cuff stuff. Much more to remember and talk about in South Worcester. Used to leave the campus at Auburn High to go have a smoke down by the donut shop and, I believe, a Howard Johnson's not far from school. And, yes, it did stunt my growth. Big fan of Holy Cross basketball back when Bob Cousy was there. Loved to see the Cross play football in Fitton field also. They went to the Orange Bowl once. Anyone remember? Would love to chat about it!! Anyone remember when the first Dairy Queen ice cream stand came in down near Cambridge St? Ed Foley
