Diana's Story
Life
Marty McAfee & I got married on May 7, 2005, in a beautiful lakeside ceremony. We're happy & enjoying life! We live out in the country on 7 acres...I always did want to be a small town girl.
School
I had a pretty happy school experience. Sure, there are some things I'd do differently if I got to do it all over, but everything I did, said, and person I interacted with made me who I am today, and I'm happy with that. My fondest memories are all attached to choir.
College
You know, I should have let loose a little bit more at TCU and not cared so much about my grades. It's not like I really remember any of the information. I went through quite a few roommates...my parents always said there must be something wrong with me. So much time was spent in Ed Landreth...all those concerts, rehearsals...so much music!!! But even more time was spent in the admission office, and that's what led me to my job now, so I am certainly fortunate.
Workplace
My first job ...Expand for more
was obtained with the help of Samantha Goldman. I had just backed into a parked car, I needed money to pay for it, so Sam offered to take me in to talk to her boss at Classic Cleaners. I should have known it wouldn't be too glamorous since she was quitting! Nasty stuff, working for a cleaners. However, it did pay for that accident, and I stayed on a little longer to just have some extra money. Opening and closing on Sundays wasn't too bad! My next job was working as a day camp counselor at the Kingwood Athletic Club with all my buddies. Rambunctious little kids, good ol' Houston heat. It was actually tons of fun. Then it was off to college for me and on-campus jobs in the music library and admission office. My first "real" job was at UT-Dallas in the career center. Of course, I was only there about 8 weeks until I could get a really "real" job in admissions. I started at SMU in August 1999, and I was there until June 2006 when I "retired" to be a stay-at-home mom.
