Jo's Story
Life
I was born in the small lumber town of McNary, AZ in the White Mountains where my maternal Grandparents lived. When I was two months old we went back to Globe, Az. I attended kindergarten at Hill Street School. Grades 1 through 6, I attended East Globe. My junior high and high school were both at the Globe High School and I attended ASU for one year. After ASU, I went to work at Fort Huachuca in the EWD dept and transferred to the Finance office after a few months. After 2 years there, I married and we moved to New York City, Staten Island, where I lived for 4 years. Both of my sons were born there. In 1963, I moved from New York City to Omaha, Nebraska where I had my first computer/programming job -- programming the old IBM 1410 in a language called autocoder which was a machine language code with macros for I/O. I stayed there only two years. It was too cold for my AZ blood and I missed home terribly; so I moved back to Arizona where I worked for the Arizona Highway Department, programming Univac systems for 4 years; I then spent 9 years at Sperry Flight Systems in the Systems Programming area. After that, I returned to the Highway department -- at this time it was now called ADOT (Az Dept of Transportation) where I managed the System Programming Area. My last 22 years were with Pinnaclewest/APS in various positions within Information Technology. I retired at the end of 2002. After retirement comes later!!!!

Globe and Phoenix. We live most of the time in Phoenix but go to Globe at least every other week for a couple of days. We believe we'll eventually retire in Globe. We do love Phoenix and always have; but, it's getting far too crowded and to busy and we love the small town atmospher in Globe. We love our neighbors both places and would never live in a retirement community with the little ones in the community. We think the children make the neighborhood. Right now we feel we have the best of both worlds. One highlight of my last 4 years (since retirement) was working on and attending our 50 year reunion. I really had a blast and even after the reunion working on the memory book was both rewarding and touching for me. It's sad to see so many of our classmates passing on even a couple since the reunion and it's sad to know how many were gone before the reunion. I still wish I could have found the remaining 7 or 8 to find out how they are or what has happened to them. I never was sentimental before but I think losing my Mom and Dad both in the four years before the reunion made me realise how important my youth was to me and how important growing up in the community of Globe was to me.
Well, I fear this profile is turning into a "journal" instead of a profile, so I guess, it's time to close unless something important happens in the Hardt/Powers/Foti family of mine.
The best to all of you, and my love to my class and work mates. Jo
