Abby Gould's Story
Our 40th reunion has now become another sweet part of our shared history...what a weekend! We are truly blessed to have been able to share precious time remembering our past and celebrating our present for that surely helps us look forward with hope.
Life
This photo was taken at our son Jeremy's 2007 graduation from the University at Buffalo. Our other son, Eli, just started there this year. My 35 year old stepson, Cary, is an orthodox rabbi living in Jerusalem with his wife and three children. Due to financial constraints, I haven't seen them in three years, which truly stinks. Webcamming gets you just so far.
So...here's the latest poop...while spending many glorious years planning playdates, movies, family trips, museum outings to get my kids out of the house and into world, I am now spending time trying to get them back in. It's a sweet problem and I know I'm lucky to have.
What's strange about being so involved in the reunion plannings over these years is that I hardly spoke to anyone while in high school. I guess there's something to be said for life experiences helping you to see and feel things differently
So over these past 6 reunions, I've email-hooked up with this ole reunion crew and I've loved every missive. And the reunions keep getting better and better.
The reason for that is quite si...Expand for more
mple: those of us who have attended at least the last 3 reunions, looked in the mirror and said: "Damn, I'm going anyway!". So the folks who have shown up are people who believe that shared histories can enrich who we are now, regardless of the lack of hair on the head or the fact that gravity is winning the battle of keeping one's boobs off the floor or that they never did become that big hotshot they were always bragging about becoming during homeroom.
And when we get that jarring notice that one of us has died, while I am certainly thrown off balance, being able to contact fellow classmates has been wonderfully life affirming and so very dear.
I don't think any one of us back in the day could've envisioned the journey so far. Whether you've achieved all of your dreams or some or none, life's road simply cannot be mapped in ink. Though surely we can do some concrete long range planning and some hopeful long range dreaming, sometimes some weird, funky and even dicey detours occur.
But getting to this point breathing and thinking is a monumental achievement to be celebrated.
So, class of '68...let's do that next year on Long Island at our 40th.
LET'S CELEBRATE OUR PAST BY SHARING OUR LIVES WITH EACH OTHER, FOR IN DOING THAT WE BRING THOSE WHO DIDN'T MAKE IT THIS FAR BACK INTO OUR MOST GLORIOUS PRESENCE.
