Ac's Story

Life Continued from college bio ... After much drama involving the not-so-supportive father of my baby and his equally not-so-supportive family, my baby girl was diagnosed with a brain tumour and died at just over 4 months of age. After a few more roommates and jobs and life experiences, I met my current husband and renewed my quest for higher learning and stability (he did the smart thing and actually graduated high school and university the first time around). We have now been together for 12 years or so and the biggest drama in my life is trying to avoid hitting deer on my way to work. I like it this way although I've become that annoying adult who pesters our nieces and nephews to do well in school. We don't have kids yet but hopefully someday soon I can be like who I most admire in life ... my mom. School I quit high school and got a job ... then I went back ... then I quit again and got a job ... then I went back again ... I didn't actually graduate until years later ... but at least I graduated ... in between I took other various other courses because despite my teenage rebellion against the school system my mom somehow convinced me that learning was important. I even managed to graduate from some of those courses (ie) make-up artistry, creative writing etc. etc. Pretty much the same story with college(s) ... except at least college was interesting ... and the teachers/administrators weren't quite as psychotic ... and I was a little bit more mature. There were two teachers in high school who encouraged me ... I forget their names. One told me I should submit a poem to the school paper that I had mostly plagarized from some song lyrics ... I was so ashamed I told no one ... obviously I couldn't submit it. Later in college I would see students who did nothing but plagarize. I wondered then how many of my high school classmates had done the same thing. The other teacher who inspired me pulled me aside one day when I decided on a whim to show up for class and used the tough love approach. It worked. I surely would've failed that class if not for that discussion. I wish all my teachers had been like that. Another teacher showed me favoritism because he knew my parents. I resented that - I wanted to do well on my own terms. There were other teachers and administrators who we students described using various unflattering terms and some who simply shouldn't have been in their chosen profession. I think about them now. I wonder what life struggles they were going through. I wonder what they thought of us a...Expand for more
nd how much more difficult we made their lives. I also wonder how much more difficult our lives were because of some of their personal strife. How many of us succeeded and/or failed? If teachers get partial credit for inspiring success, shouldn't they and/or the administrators also be held partially responsible for failures? It's a conundrum, considering my mom was a teacher. Anyway, the blog continues in college ... College My first college roommate was abandoned by her friend who sublet the place to me without my roommates' awareness ... that should've been my first clue. My second college roommate gave her key to someone who 'broke in' while she was 'out of town' and I was trying to sleep ... apparently I was supposed to be 'out of town' as well. My third college roommate was my boyfriends brother ... he and his fiance had 'broken up' ... he brought 2 red plastic cups and 2 red plastic plates with him ... his one day stay was quite pleasant ... he and his wife got back together ... we remained amicable and he split his property with me as payment for rent. My fourth college roommates ... well I was a jerk to them ... we fought ... they moved out ... my fault entirely. My fifth college roommate came with me to my new digs ... where I was co-habitating with a guy who would later become the father of my baby but had a mother who denied any biological link. After a brief hospital stay I quit college and got a job. After being involved in a car accident and the factory where I worked closing without notice ... I moved and left the father of my unborn baby. My roommate had also left school and moved away. To be continued in life bio ... Workplace Since high school I have worked in many settings; including a garden store, a woodworking shop, a bar, an esthetics salon, a home decor store, a telemarketing office, a publishers customer service office, a video store, a coffee shop (for four hours), a factory, various businesses doing inventory, another home decor store, a hospital, in a volunteer capacity for Children's Aid Society and the Brain Tumour Foundation, and sporadically taking time off to either heal from some trauma or focus on writing or both. The last time I was off, every manuscript I sent out was rejected. Sadly, income then became more important than creative output. Currently I am a retail manager and pathetic as this is, the only writing I'm doing is blogging here. Economic reality squashes inspiration ... and writing full-time becomes more of a fantasy as each year passes.
