Adrienne's Story
After high school, I went to IPFW and worked, eventually graduating with a BA in computer technology in 1987. I received an MBA in 2000.
I have been married for 34 years, have two children, two step-children, two grandsons, a 2-year old granddaughter and one grand-dog. My children are artists, musicians and a social worker.
My south side neighborhood is my passion. I live in a 75 year old home with all of the charm, character and opportunities that come with an older home. My neighborhood is on the National Register of HIstoric Place, something I am extremely proud of. As the neighborhood historian, I love collecting interesting stories about life on my street in years past and those who lived here.
I've been at Essex for 27 years, first as a programmer, then as a business systems analyst. My work has taken me to China twice, which was quite an eye-opening experience. The culture is a mixture of centuries old traditions, along with 21st century conveniences and western influences. Last year, I made many trips to northern Italy for work. s way better than my Italian!
Community service has been extremely rewarding. I was a member of the 2002 class of Leadership Fort Wayne, served on the board at the History Center for many years, served on the City of Fort Wayne Historic Preservation Commission, was president of my neighborhood association for 8 years and chair of the Southwest Area Partnership for 4 years. I participate in Study Connection, Big Brothers Big Sisters Lunch Buddies and was president of the South Side Fine and Performing Arts Booster.
Toastmasters International has been a major influence in my life since 1999. I attribute much of my success to the skills and confidence gained from being a part of this organization. I currently serve as the Division Director, overseeing the clubs in Northeast Indiana.
My husband and I are avid cyclists. Our goal is to complete a century someday (100 miles); we finished a metric century in the summer of 2016.
As busy as I tend to be, I am looking forward to being retired. Travel, bike trips and home improvements are what I am planning for my after-work life.
