Adrienne(Addie)Semon's Story
After graduating from McClintock I spent a year at Mesa Community College before transferring to Northern Arizona University (NAU). I love school in the mountains and pines and became more involved in activities than I was in High School.
I graduated from NAU in 1974 with a degree in Microbiology, thinking I wanted to be a Medical Technologist. But at the end of that last year I decided I didn't really want to watch things grow in petri dishes so I stay an extra year in Flagstaff and started my Masters degree.
I knew I wanted to do something with health care so I transferred to ASU and finished my degree in Health Services Administration. During that time I worked for the Arizona Department of Health Services in the Family Health Services division. I did my internship at Arizona Children's Hospital which at the time was run by the State of AZ and was housed in the old TB hospital on Curry Road.
After I finished my Masters degree I got a job in Palm Springs California working as a Budget Analyst at Desert Hospital....Expand for more
I worked there for over six years before moving to San Diego California.
In San Diego I worked at Scripps Memorial Hospital for over 11 years. Then I went to work for Shared Medical Systems (SMS), now Siemens, as a consultant helping hospital with process improvements while they were installing new information systems. I was with SMS for six years before got tired of traveling and quit in 2000.
I took a year off and then did some consulting work at University of California San Diego Medical Center for 3 years. Then I retired.
I met and married my husband Larry in Palm Springs almost 25 years ago. We never had children. I guess we figured my sister's five and his sister's three were enough for our families. Now he and I travel 6 months out of the year in our 40 ft motor home. We are loving exploring the different areas of the US and are looking for the "perfect" place to retire. While there are many wonderful things about San Diego, it is becoming too crowded and expensive to live so our wondering continues.
