Aida's Story

April 17, 2021 What? 45 years ago, no way! Hope everyone is moving forward to normality during this pandemic time. Who would have ever imagined it would get to this point? The experience has certainly bettered me in so many ways. As I reflect upon my past, I will admit, I have such pleasant memories of my HS years and the crowd around me. HS was fun, I still remember it vividly. Since then and through the years, I have lived a fortunate, fast paced and fulfilled life. I’ve had up and down, but never surrendered. I’ve lived in the Austin area since 1985, balancing life, family, and career. After a successful and rewarding career in public education, I retired after 27 years, thereafter, taking a short break for R & R. Many accomplishments were earned during my tenure in education. I paid my dues to society while having fun in the classroom, in leadership roles, at the elementary, middle school and HS. Then the bucket list showed up, my second wind! Beginning to explore the what’s next, I’m too young for this thing called “retirement”. After several lovely encounters in employee development, in career guidance for the blind and visually impaired, and serving in a client/attorney role for the State Bar of Texas, I found my niche. I am currently employed in a position that brings delight, enjoyment, and pride. In the field of Emergency Management, I get to touch the lives of survivors recovering from weather, and other catastrophic events. I work alongside the Chief of Staff as the Special Projects Officer. On my off time I do volunteer work as a case worker with Society St. Vincent de Paul. A good day is when I can jump on my bike and go for a ride or go for a walk/run around the track. We raised 3 kiddos, a daughter and 2 sons. My daughter follo...Expand for more
wed in my footsteps, she played VB in HS. Her HS team finished 5th in the 6A State Championships.. A proud hometown moment was watching her walk across the football field as a nominee during Homecoming her senior year. You see OUR ECISD Barrett Stadium was sold and relocated to the school district where my kiddos attended school. She graduated with a BS Nursing degree from Texas A&M Corpus Christi. My 1st born son, played baseball and golf in HS. He graduated with a BS in Biology at UT Austin, also a member of the UT Bass Team. Went on to obtain his MS Finance from Georgetown University in D.C. My youngest son played football and baseball in HS. Earned a State Football Championship ring, Friday Night Lights followed us, small world. He graduated with a BS Finance from Texas A&M College Station and a Frat brother, Pi Kappa Alpha (PIKE). My husband and I have been married for 39, 39 years! He is semi-retired, at one point in his career was a Senior Executive for a Fortune 500 company. At another career point, his employer was based out of Helsinki, Finland, with a direct supervisor in Paris, France.. A pretty smart dude I met and have had a nice ride with. We are real estate investors, in our younger years we “flipped” a few homes, doing all of the work ourselves, kinda like Chip and Joanna back in time. We’ve attended two Texas Governor’s Inaugurations by invitation, yes, the kids from Odessa. Both he and I are home grown West Texans, First generation Americans, English as a Second Language individuals who value our humble beginnings, never forgetting our barrio adventures. I would love to hear from you, if you live in the Austin area or are visiting, please reach out. Be safe, live long, get your vaccine AND may God bless you! Hasta la vista ~
