Akers's Story

Upon graduation I joined the Marines and stayed for 22yrs until I retired. Got married , had 2 sons and now I have 3 grandchildren. While in the marines I went to every conflict the U.S. had ending in Iraq. Was awarded 3 purple hearts as i never was any good at ducking. While in the service I got my college degree, not much for me but for my sons as i wanted them to know its important. They both went to Texas A&M but I bleed Longhorn Orange so you can imagine football season at my house. I moved to Gatesville, Tx upon retirement and live in the country. Very quiet as i own the only road that goes to my house. I am married to the love of my life and life is really good. I went to work for the State when I retired in 92 and i retired again in 2007 at age 55. I know it was alittle early but I felt it was the time to start enjoying life more. Money was never an issue as I planned for this since I left school. I have the luxury of having anything I want and I answer to know one. I enjoy ...Expand for more
golf (I am what you call a golf crazed person) as i have played all over the world and my alltime favorite course is in australia. I also play racquetball at least 10- hrs a week at the fitness center I belong to. As far as golf I joined the country club and play everyday its not raining and I'm in town. I am a truck man (diesel) as i need the towing power to pull my fifthwheel and bassboat. I need to sell the boat and get a pontoon boat for the family when we go to the lake. Grandkids love to tube. I have never smoked and only drink alittle. Bought a case of beer last year and i still have 13 left. My main foods are steaks, cheeseburgers and chinese. Not much else to say but if I had any advice for young people today it would be to save 30% of every payckeck and put it somewhere you can't touch it until you retire. If you do that after 40 yrs you would be surprised how good life can be. Money may not buy happiness but it sure makes life sweeter and alot easier the older we get. The end
