Al's Story
While in High School, I DJ'd at the dance for the Golden Raiders in Acushnet Saturday nights. Did the same while I was in the Navy in Newport. After the Navy, I went to Honeywell Computers to field troubleshoot their then largest computer. Left them after three years and went to WNHC-TV, now WTNH-TV, New Haven, as an all around TV operations engineer. In 1970, I joined WHDH, channel 5 and did all around engineering including camera on the Candlepin bowling show and third base camera for the Boston Red Sox games. Was sent to Texas for 5 days when Archbiship Mederios was named Archbiship to Boston. When WHDH became WCVB, I was transferred there. llation. I was known as 'Mr. Build' as I did a great deal of the installs of new equipment in the control rooms, tech center, edit suites and studios. When President Reagen was shot, I was sent to Washington to engineer the taped news broadcast for WCVB from the White House lawn.
Retired in 2007 after 37 years.
Married twice, my first wife died in 1995. Have three sons and 3 'step children' and 11 grandchildren. I live in Bellingham, Mass. I can still be seen (heard) playing the same music that I played at record hops in the 60's, doing car shows and car cruise nights from Braintree, Uxbridge, and Millis to Watertown, Woonsocket, Attleboro and several other towns.
