Al's Story
School
I attended about 4 elementary schools in IF: Emerson, Hawthorne, Temple View and Linden Park, I think; Central Intermediate, O. E. Bell, and Claire E Gale (our class opened that new school.), and IFHS. The teacher that inspired me the most was Mae Neuber (a friend in Logan is a relative of hers). I do recall a 'crush': Carlye McGinnis, and also liked Joann Davis (a 1966 grad.), Janet Murri, and Barbara Fifield. And actually, I have had more female friends than male throughout my life. That is a least partially because I'm a teacher; and also because I like them more.

University of Colorado. ( I lost one semester there because of a skull fracture and concussion); a summer and one school year at the University of Minnesota (BA in economics); and a summer and a school year at Teachers College, Columbia University (MA in Education of the hearing impaired).
Military
In 1969, I had a draft number in the low 200s. That summer, my parents moved to Illinois, and I was in the midst of transferring from the University of Colorado to the University of Minnesota. I was 'asked' to take a draft physical in Chicago. Because of my severe nearsightedness, I was give a 4F classification.
