Life
Wow! A life bio. I'm not sure I can put this into 4,000 characters, but here goes. After graduating from LD, I attended Virginia Tech, and received undergraduate and a master's degree in Accounting. I am also a CPA. I've spent about ten years of my career in corporate income tax, about ten years in internal audit. I currently own my own seven person accounting firm, Carpenter, Francisco & Associates, in Roanoke, VA. My house borders the Blue Ridge Parkway. Very pretty out here in this part of the state. I am currently married (1989) with two great young men as sons (ages 16 and 18 as of 2/2009). We get up to a couple of Tech football games each year - they are VERY expensive to attend these days, and I can't believe how much the place has grown. I continue in my weight-lifting activities, which is somewhat successful in staving off the effects of old age. We camp and hike quite a lot, being very close to the Applachian Trail (about a half hour from my house). We also deer hunt (on a VERY remote piece of property in Giles County Virginia). We fish some at the beach -- Outer Banks - my wife's folks have a house in Duck that is available pretty much any time we want to use it - so we go often.
My folks still live in Mechanisville, having moved back to Lee Davis Road after living on their farm in Madison VA for 15 years. I cannot BELIEVE how much development is going on along Pole Green Road.
What else? Oh, yea. I worked for the State of Virginia for ten years prior to coming to Roanoke - I was the Assistant Commisioner of Audit Services for the DMV - in charge of the auditing department, basically, and was a Tax Policy Analyst prior to that tim...Expand for more
e. I was also actively involved in two gubernatorial campaigns - Gilmore and Allen. If it paid anything, I'd continue in that line of work, as its very exciting. A WHOLE lot happens in a very time-compressed time frame. Sadly, political campaign work is largely for young folks who don't mind living out of someone else's apartment for a few months, then moving on to the next thing. That isn't me at this point.
That's enough about work - they say that we become defined by our work, so I suppose that's true for me.
I find as I get older that I've become more conservative politically, as well as in other areas of my life. I'm still pretty much my some ol' boisterous self, and still enjoy a good laugh at the expense of myself as well as others. I get aches and pains in places where I used to not feel anything. I guess that's the burden of getting older. People may remember that I played the trumpet in school - I played for a year in the marching band at Tech (4th chair), but found I didn't have time for the trumpet and studies AND a girlfriend (I always tell folks that stupidly, I dropped the trumpet and kept the girl). I still have the trumpet, along with other life memorabilia in my "man room" (so named by my dear wife) - sort of our rec room in disguise. I have also started playing guitar, with a Fender Eric Johnson Strat and a Gibson Les Paul Custom 50th Anniversary Tom Murphy aged in my collection. Oh, yea, there's also that mid-life crisis 2005 red Corvette.
Anyway, if there's anyone who'd like to chat, or otherwise have contact, please write to ahc3 at msn.com. Thanks so much, and I hope this finds everyone taking the time to read it doing well.
