Al's Story
Life
My wife, Karen, and I married in 1991 and have been blessed with three children. Sara is 11, Russell is 7 (almost 8 at this writing) and Katie is 3-1/2. While living in North Carolina we were very active in our church -- St. Mary of Hills Episcopal in Blowing Rock -- but have not been able to nail down a church home here in Texas. I and the older children are avid skiiers, and I still fancy myself a moderately competent golfer (despite all evidence to the contrary!).

After finishing my bachelor's degree in liberal arts at Clemson in 1984, I spent a few years as a sports writer at a couple of newspapers before returning to Pickens to work with my father at his tool & die shop. While working there I began working on my MBA in Clemson's evening program, and after finishing that I migrated into Clemson's Ph.D. program in Industrial Management. I started on the tenure track at Appalachian State in 2000, then moved to Texas two years ago.
