Alan's Story
Been quite a run for the past 50+ years. First my 2 years at JCBC... then 2 more at FAU... got my BS in Math Education. Went on to a short teaching career... one year at Sunrise Middle School followed by one year at Sebring High. Then my draft board decided that the Marine Corps needed me more than a high school with 9 math teachers (and 8 of those positions vacant)... so I did what any resourceful person would do... I joined the Navy! Signed up for 4 years & spent 5 on active duty... first 2 enlisted then OCS and a commission in the Navy Supply Corps. After leaving active duty I went back to Sebring... 2 years at Sebring Middle School followed by 31 at Sebring High. Great career... probably the only thing better than teaching math would have been teaching Physics. Joi...Expand for more
ned the Naval Reserve in 1976 and served with them for 17 more years. Retired in 1994.
My wife Linda has hung with me all these past 52 years... giving us 2 wonderful daughters and now 2 outstanding grandchildren. Both daughters work for the local government at our county courthouse. Our granddaughter is 17 & a senior at Sebring High. Grandson is 18 and graduated both from high school and the local community college in June 2021! He will be attending FAU in the fall as a pre-med major... grandparents are extremely proud.
Among all the other stuff I owned/ran an income tax prep business for 39 years... sold it in 2016 and went to work for the purchaser (a former student of mine).
Life has been mostly great since graduation from NEHS... and is terrific in Sebring!
