Alba's Story
Life
I obtained my BA in Communication Arts from the College of New Rochelle in 1999 and was previously a staff writer for a home improvement magazine. I am currently working as Assistant Art Director for three travel trade magazines in Manhattan.
I live in New Jersey with my husband. Our wedding date was Sept. 16, 2006 and we went to Spain for our honeymoon. We currently do not have children.
Workplace
When I graduated college in 1999, I still had to complete 3 credits, so I was hired as a intern for a home improvement magazine. I wrote news briefs and conducted interviews with marketing and sales personnel of major home improvement companies such as Home Depot, Sears, and Lowe's. I was ...Expand for more
then hired to work full-time, but I was drawn to the designing aspect of magazines. So, I left that job after being hired to work as a Jr. Layout Artist for Advanstar Communications, working for one of their industry magazines called Travel Agent. After a year I was promoted to Layout Artist and I am currently working as Assistant Art Director for three magazines. Although we have a system of templates, I make sure the copy and art flow well together against any ad pages, and design charts on occasion. I also help upload stories to our daily news and weekly issue websites. I have learned a lot about the travel industry and was published in a special guide for a cruise I took in the Caribbean.
