Albert's Story
Marion (Royko) and I have been married 43 years now. We have 6 grandchildren. Two grand daughters and four grandsons. They rule with an iron fist. The six of them run our lives. Both daughters live in town with their husbands. Since we are close by, Marion and I get to baby sit nearly as often as we like.
Saturday mornings, right after hockey practice, is usually set aside for breakfast with the grandsons. Grandpa cooks pancakes while the wee ones get to wake grandma up. She's easy to find, just follow the sound of snoring. It isn't any fun unless they get to wake grandma up!
The other night I got to help my grand daughter with her multiplication. I can still multiply and divide. I still can't add or subtract worth a damn, but that works in my favor. As long as there are blank checks in the check book there must be money in the accout.
I believe the grand children all learned to read early just so grandpa couldn't improvise when reading to them. "Grandpa, that isn't how the story goes!"

ory, until then the story goes the way I want it to go."
My work takes me all over the United States and once in a while I get to go overseas. Welding is still my thing, but now instead of doing the welding, I get to tell others how to do it. I get to teach welders how to weld, inspectors how to inspect the welds, and engineers how to design the welds. Teaching accounts for about 30 to 40% of my business. Consulting and inspection accounts for the remaining time. Last year I spent about 18 weeks on the road for the American Welding Society and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. I've cut that back a little; to about 14 weeks. I was forced to cut back when my youngest grandson chastised me for missing three of his hockey practices.
We still live in the old house (circa 1847) we bought back in 1979. It has been one large construction site since we bought it. Now with two excavators, a bulldozer, and whatnot in the yard it qualifies as a "shovel ready" project under the stimulus program.
"Well, that's my story and I'm sticking with it."
