Albert's Story
Albert is from Compton, California. His schools include Dominguez High School. He later attended California State University, Fullerton (Russian Area Studies).
One of Albert's favorite quotes is:""Everyone is a little crazy". Albert A. Maybeno, MD (my dad, the psychiatrist)".
More about Albert:"After Graduating from Dominguez High School I attended Compton College and then joined the US Navy, and then transferred to the US Army. After army basic at Ft. Ord I was sent to Army Security Agency School at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts. I was selected to attend Army Infantry Officer Candidat School at Ft. Benning, Georgia where I graduated on 11 December 1967. I was assigned to Ft. Campbell, Kentucky where I was assigned to an Infantry battalion, initially serving as the battalion administrative officer. Other duties included the assistant S-3 and an infantry company executive officer. While on temporary duty at Ft. Indiantown Gap Military Reservation outside of Harrisiburg, Pennsylvania I met a someone at a dance in Hershey, Pennsylvania and a few weeks later we decided to get married. We were married in August 1968 and shortly thereafter I received my orders for Vietnam. I commanded an infantry rifile platoon in Vietnam and then returned to the US and finished college. I spent 10 years on active duty and 13 years in the reserves retiring in 1988 as a major. I have owned real estate companies, mortgage companies, a furniture business, an auto wholesale company, and a fitness company. I have been married (second time) to the same wife for 37 years this year and continue to manage my businesses.
I currently live in Menifee, California but have moved over thirty times since 1972-get tired of the staying in the same place I guess-must be military experience of moving every few ...Expand for more
months, a year was a long time. I have four kids and six grandkids.
I own 1st Step Fitness and specialize in training seniors to stay strong, flexible, fit, and independent. After being involved in other businesses, I find that this business really does help people-that is if they understand that by being active and exercising some healthy eating habits they may last a little longer. I continue to play tennis, racquetball, swim, bicycle, and hike.
I plan to attend the 50 year reunion, one reunion every 50 years is my goal. I haven't seen many Dominguez classmates over the intervening years except for Jim Toler, John Evans, Joe Mohney, Denny Turner, Loren Heacock, Susan Sweet, Barbara Bennett, MIke Lawrence, Judy Talmadge, Larry Humburger, and a few others. I have received emails and letters from others but the funniest I ever received was from "The King", Don Hoagland. I had just returned to the field in Vietnam after being hospitalized when I received a letter from "The King", he was in the army at a post in the US and had heard that he was going to get his orders for Vietnam. He had written me because he had heard that I was "some kind of wheel" and was asking to use my influence to get him out of going. This was indeed ironic based on the fact that I had already been commanding a rifle platoon in combat for two months and had been hospitalized-I spent another nine months in the field returning to the states in September 1969 to be greeted by Jane Fonda singing "HO HO Chi Minh, he is going to win". At the time I received the letter I was a 1st Lieutenant and obviously didn't have much to say about who went to Vietnam-I did write him back to inform him about the situation-I never heard from him again.
See you all soon.
Best wishes to all.
