Alberta (Bobbie)'s Story
Life
I've been married for 58 years, had a wonderful husband who recently passed away, 3 great sons, 2 beautiful daughters-in-law, 2 of the sweetest granddaughters in the world and a beautiful great-grandson. I'm a retired registered nurse and love helping people.
School
I was quiet and a little shy. I didn't date guys from school much. I had strict parentage that prohibited much dating so missed out on a lot of school functions. Went to work at an early age that also kept me from participating in such things. I liked school very much, enjoyed socializing there, maybe too much at times. I enjoyed being in the band and all the activities being in the band allowed me to do. I guess that was why Mr. Cooper was one of my most favorite teachers. Even though I didn't participate as much as I could have, if I had been a little more outgoing, I wouldn't have wanted those days to turn out any other way than they did. I had many good times and memories of my school days, especially at Norte.
College
It was a rough five years, I had three, active, youngster's and a husband at home and I worked full time.
Workplace
While in school I had a couple of typical teenage entry jobs, work...Expand for more
ing in fast food and a drive-in theater snack bar, and ticket booth. I worked, mostly, with kids my own age so we always had a good time making work fun. Of course, as I got older, I had to get serious. The next job I had was a front, and back, medical office receptionist in a doctor's office. I did that until I had my first child then went to work in a large, community hospital as a Unit Secretary for many, many years. When my mother passed away in early 1980, I made a decision to go back to school and get my nursing degree because she always wanted me to become a nurse from the time, I was very young. She said she always wanted to become one, when she was young, but couldn't because of the times, and money, and thought I would be a wonderful nurse because of my character, and patience. So, in memory of her, and her belief in me, I went back to school. It wasn't easy, and my poor family sacrificed, but God Bless'em, they supported me all the way. I'm still working in the nursing field. Hopefully to retire sometime soon but finding it very difficult to make the final decision because I enjoy what I do so much. As of August 2010, I finally retired. A whole new life to begin.
