Alec's Story
Life
Well, where do I start ? I left Weston in 1972 to travel to Scotland. I went back and forth a couple of times before finally joining the Scottish Police in 1974. (one of the few jobs that gave me a work permit)I served in a town called Wishaw in Lanarkshire (near Glasgow) before leaving to join the Bermuda Police. Quite proud to get the job. 1300 applicants, down to 100 for interview and eventually 24 selected. Great place, great people, fantastic weather.
Lived there 3.5 years then moved home to Toronto. Lived in Weston for a while then moved to Willowdale. Worked in security for the Ontario Housing Association, based in Regents Park, Cabbagetown. Interesting experience ! Finally returned to UK in 1983. In early 1984 got a security job on a private, English country estate near London/Oxford. Ended up working for the owners as Estate Manager. Great place, it's been used for lots of films and TV. If you saw "The Madness of King George" the house where he was put in hospital was t...Expand for more
he one I managed. Some of Saving Private Ryan was filmed there. Left in 1992. Continued to live locally and had a few jobs. In 2004 started my own delivery business. But now have a local taxi service. I'm single, never married, no children. I enjoyed the companionship of two little dogs. (terriers - "Buster" and "Megan")I enjoy antiques and country sports. (very politically incorrect!) Date is now April, 2020 in the Covid-19 lockdown. I’ve been running my little taxi business for 16 years now. I live in a small, rented cottage in the country near Oxford. Still have dogs. A Scottish Terrier called Mr Pig and a Westie called BeaBea. Love them both, great little companions. Business is dead at present. Hopefully we get out of lockdown in June sometime. Goal for this year is to survive and keep business thriving. Known as Bob here in England, not Al. Got tired of explaining why I was called Al when I always signed my name Robert. Getting old and grey, not very fit but content with life..
