Alessio's Story
A big Hello to everyone !
My name is Alessio (stands for Alex in english language) and I write from Rome, Italy. I started off on studying the Elvis impact on the country/pop music scenario since I was 14, and this became my main interest since.
I also wrote some publication in the past for the italian magazine "MusikBox" regarding the impact of Elvis' phenomenon here in Italy. Unfortunately, here in Italy Elvis never had many people following his music and/or buying his records, as italians were mostly on kinda classical standard pop-melodic italian artist like : Mina - Modugno - Villa - Morandi - etc. Around mid-60's a new beat music came off from UK with The Beatles , and opposite to Elvis, Beatles had many fans in Italy at the time, perhaps due to the notorius Beatles live show they held in Rome back in 1964. Unfortunately, Elvis never made live concerts outside USA during his life (except one only in Canada in 1957) and this is an aspect to consider to understand one of the reason he did not appeal that much in some foreign countries. ed at Honolulu International Arena on January 14th 1973 , Elvis got a worldwide acknowledgement also outside USA including Italy.
Elvis been the only artist to achieve Gold Award in all 3 music areas : Country - Pop/Rock - Gospel. He was a natural white gospel singer, Elvis had a three octave range and each octave contains 6 different sounds. A unique voice that could sing everything.
My favourite Elvis album is : HIS HAND IN MINE (1960) - A real masterwork ! You should hear this once in your life at least !
Why I'm here: well, I found this site by chance browsing through the web. I'm desperately looking for any early Elvis photo of his Humes 1949-1953 period, hopefully someone of you who had the great chance to meet him at Humes and/or around Memphis could help me out with my research.
I hope someone out there in Memphis made a candid/snapshot to Elvis during 1949-53 era while he was playing/singing in the street...at party....picnic..at Humes..or elsewhere, and would still retain the photo. Just help to not getting lost this kind of historical material.
Any email, help, advice, much appreciated. Thanks beforehand !
