Alex's Story
I grew up in the Linden area, a great place to live in the 60's and I cherish the memories of that period. I would describe myself in the second tier of popularity in school, the middle. I was kind of smallish then, so I had to work harder to compete in sports and attracting girls. I had my own set of friends that has lasted a life time. After graduation, I took a welding job and entered Franklin University. That didn't last long, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November 1965. After boot camp, I was stationed in Jacksonville, Fla. at NAS Cecil Field, there I worked with A4 Skyhawk jets and attained the rank of 2nd class petty officer before being discharged. I married Marion Smith 6-11-66,we had a daughter from the marriage and divorced in 1972, we've remained friends. On May 9, 1971, my birthday, I entered the Coumbus Police Academy, I was the class orator for graduation. My first assignment was the near eastside, we changed shifts every three months, unfortunately I had to arrest some former classmates. some were also Linden classmates. I spent four years on Patrol and transferred to the Narcotics Bureau where I worked undercover on the heroin squad. Oh, I married again in 1973 to Carolyn Norris. Later I worked Vice, Homicide, and the Freeway Patrol. I spent half my career in covert assignments with long hair and a beard. I retired as a sergeant in Vice in 2000 to take care of my ill wife. Some other things of note are: I worked as a radio DJ at various stations, I recorded voice-overs and formed a rock and roll cover band called Buster and the Nomads. The band performed in a lot of venues in central Ohio and West Virginia for nine years [you can find on Facebook]. I have led a full and wonderful life, I had the greatest job in the world and the most wonderful wife in the world. Married to Carolyn for 32 years { a Shirley Mc Lane look-a-like], SHE PASSED AWAY 11-15-04, the saddest day in my life. I've been a widower for seven years and life goes on. Because I am a Christian, I know I wll see Carolyn again. There, 46 years wrapped up in this big paragraph.
