Alex's Story

I enlisted in the US Air Force in Sep. 1981 and have been serving the USAF (and the State Of Ga.) in that capacity ever since. I am currently assigned to the 283rd Combat Communications Squadron, Ga. Air National Guard, Dobbins ARB, Marrietta, Ga. I serve as a full time Logistic's Management Specialist, and hold the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt/E-8) and GS-0346-11. I served four plus years on an active duty tour from 1981 - 1986 and was mostly stationed at Charleston AFB, S.C. as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Mechanic. In April 1986 I transferred from the USAF to the unique assignment of a full time Air National Guard Electronics technician at the 129th Air Combat Operations Squadron, McCullum ANGB, Kennesaw, Ga. where I served until Oct. 1995. In Oct. 1995 I transferred to the 116th Bomb Wing, Ga Air National Guard as a full time Superintendent of Aerospace Ground Equipment systems supporting the B-1B Long Range "LANCER" Bomber. I transferred to my current assignment at the 283rd Combat Communications Squadron in March 2003. I graduated from the USAF Air University Associate Degree program in 1985 with an Associate of Science (Electronics) Degree. I have also graduated from numerous USAF Technical School courses (over 2,500 class room hours) and from all four levels of Air Force Professional Military Education, including the highest Enlisted Professional Military Education Course, T...Expand for more
he Senior Non Commissioned Officer Academy (SR NCO) Course in Feb. 2002. I have been fortunate enough to have received numerous USAF Decorations and Awards during my long military career, including fifteen USAF decorations and six Ga. Air National Guard awards. Among the highest honors are; the USAF Meritorious Service Medal, The Air Force Commendation Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), the US Army Commendation Medal (for Joint Military deployed operations), the USAF Achievement Medal (with three Oak Leak Clusters), the USAF Humanitarian Service Ribbon (for extended service during the Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts), the Georgia ANG Commendation Medal, Georgia National Guard Counter Drug Operations Medal, and the Georgia Humanitarian Service Ribbon (for extended service during the great flood of 1994 and the great blizzard of 1993). I was blessed enough to have coached my son Thomas from his age 5 Tee Ball year until his age 14 Pony League Baseball team. During that time Thomas made all stars numerous years in a row as the starting catcher and competed in the Georgia Parks and Rec. Dep't. State Baseball Tournament four of those five years. During his 2002 (age 12) season, Thomas was the starting catcher and Alex was the assistant coach of the 11/12 State Baseball Championship Team that won the first ever 11/12 year old State Baseball Title. I have been very blessed and fortunate in my life!
