Alexa's Story
Life
Feb 2000-Well, I think I'm the first of the bunch to register...I finished college in 1994 at Chapman University(Bach. of Music) was the lead singer for a local funk band for 5 years and am now working at Ikegami Electronics(manufacturer of cameras for broadcast television)....soon to be off to a new career in Nursing(time to give back to humanity) starting August 1st 2001(finally!). Traveled to Zimbabwe, S. Africa, Namibia, Zambia, China, Peru(hiked the trail to Machu Picchu), Chekoslovakia, Germany, Italy, France, Wales, Austria, Britian and am leaving for New Zealand to hike the Milford Track in April...whew! I am currently taking Physiology at El Camino(sure beats private school $$$)
1/19/02- Finally finished first semester of Nursing school at LAC+USC hospital....what a ride! It's a jungle in there....hehehe....3 more semesters to go. I'm currently volunteering at Harbor General in the Neurology Dept and doing clinical rotations in Labor&Delivery....maybe we'll get this Alzeimers thing licked soon!
6/30/04- Got my RN license....yeah! I'm working at HarborUCLA in the ER...can you beleive it?!! People getting shot up, stabbed to death...blood and guts and death almost every day! Guess I was meant for a crazy job like this. More to report later.
4/30/05- Got back from Thailand...the largest beach party in the world is on this remote island in the middle of the Thai Sea. Must have been 10,000 people listening to trance and hip-hip, sucking Bacardi and Triple Red-Bull....one of the most memorable nights ever. Do visit Ko Pa Ngan by way of Ko Samui.
5/12/05- Getting ready to start my Nurse Practitioner Program in Women's Health on the 23rd. The ER has been crazy this last 3 weeks, trauma every night...and no beds to admit patients. I get called in every day now and finally finished my 2nd semester of my Masters in Nursing Administration at CSUDH.
11/11/05- Well, about to finish my NP program and switched to Masters in Nursing as a Women's Health Care NP at CSULB. Heading off to Amsterdam for New Years and Jamaica for my B/D in Jan. Finally, some R&R!
11/2006- Got back from Istanbul, Turkey. It really wasn't as scarey as everyone made it seem. Reminds me a lot of Paris but with a middle eastern twist. Loved the food! Someday I'll sign up and send you pi...Expand for more
cs:-)
3/2007- Went to Costa Rica for my birthday in January. What a beautiful country! Be sure to go to Arenal and Monteverde, the zip line there is like 2 football fields long over the canopy of the rainforest....wheeee! The most adventure I've ever had on any trip!
6/2007- Now this trip was quite a logistical nightmare. We flew into Lisboa, Portugal, then to Seville, Spain. Took a train to Grenada and back, then a bus to the Gibraltar and a ferry across the Straight to Morocco to Tangier. Then a train from Tangier to Fez, then from Fez to Marrakesh and a plane to Casablanca back to Lisbon. I won't even mention the bus, plane, ferry and train tickets we didn't use! Oh, my, but the monkeys and snake charmers and fortune tellers in Marrekesh made it all worth it. Someday I'll upload them on myspace.
10/2008 - I LOVE Paris, every time! Boo-hoo that the metro was on strike, and that it was freezing cold, but I made 4 more Paris converts, will need to take each of the ER girls one at a time.
2/2008 - Got back from Rio de Janerio for Carnaval. I must be getting old because I just can't party like I used to! I'm enjoying life in the ER, bought my first place a couple of years ago and loving it! Living in San Pedro, 2 blocks from Trader Joe's, what could be better??!! Need to work on my Thesis so I won't be traveling until Sept. The plan is to go to Nepal and hike the Annapurna Circuit, then to Tibet, about 5 weeks. Holler if you're interested!
9/2008- Well, looks like no Nepal :-( But the good news is that I got a promotion. I'll be one of the NP's in the ER screening and treating patients as well as suturing...so who knows when my next vacation is now that I am going on as a full time employee. Will let you know more details after I start in October. Be safe everyone!
10/08- Can I say 'Loving' my new job???!! Worked until 6am this am but treated a lot of patients and made people feel better. My sutures are looking great, but then I always enjoyed sewing...
Unfortunately, I am such a procrastinator...I have slacked on finishing my thesis...I pray for the determination everyday to finish in December(while I'm dreaming of Paris!).
I finally pay for this service, so feel free to contact me...must say I don't get on regularly so please be patient with my replys:-)
