Alexander "Sandy"'s Story

For all of my old friends and Classmates; I truly hope life's journey has treated you with kindness and that today you are in a good place in life. My journey has been, I suppose, much like yours. Filled with wonderment, disappointment, and love. I have a wonderful wife (35 years), three daughters, and three grandchildren (with a new baby boy due August 2011). Following graduation from BHS, and not being a really serious student, I joined & served in the US Navy (67 - 71), following which I returned to school for a couple of years. After obtaining my "degree" from Schoolcraft, I left school to enter the business world, working in the Nursing Home industry. You may remember that my folks owned two nursing homes in Livonia. They sold those facilities in 1986, following which I then ventured out and acquired a couple of nursing homes on my own, located in Novi and Farmington Hills. In 1996, I suffered the first of my heart attacks (3 in total, luckily no real heart damage from any of them), and decided that the stress of the business world was a major health issue. So, I sold the nursing homes in 1997. Following the sale of the nursing homes I became a partner and "Entrepreneur in Residence" for a...Expand for more
n International Venture Capital firm, with offices in Farmington Hills and London, UK. During my time working in venture capital I traveled extensively, both in the US and abroad. The firm has an office in Covent Garden section, London, for which I traveled to for business. For a period, including 2002 - 2003, my wife and I relocated to the London where I worked with the UK venture team (and serving on boards of directors for UK Companies), living in central London and traveling throughout Europe. Not the best of times for an American to live abroad, but we kept a low profile and enjoyed being able to experience living in such a great part of the World. I am still working, being an entrepreneur is not something you can retire from, and at least I have not found the time to contemplate retirement. I fondly remember our days together at Bentley. Funny thing about the connection we all share, we remember the good days and good times spent together in our "formative" years. Certainly a bond that is a lasting connection, otherwise, why would websites like this one be in existence? It is hard for me to comprehend that 46 years have passed since our graduation day. It truly seems like on a "blink of an eye"!
