Alfred J Barbieri:  

1983 sworn in and retired in 2010 from the Sheriffs Dept.,Nassau County, N.Y. after 27+years as a Correction Officer. Prior to that I worked for a private ambulance company as an EMT. In March of 83 we had to transfer Billy Joel from Huntington Hospital to Columbia Presbyterian . I sat in the back with him. His people felt the ride would be too long so we went to Republic AP. A friend hired a helicopter for him where I had to physically pick him up and strap him in, wished him luck and said good bye. One afternoon while working the main entrance to the jail, I came close to arresting Dee Snyder of Twisted Sister. Thought he was going to get away with something because he was a celebrity! On the very last day at the jail I reported to my outside post as usual. That’s where I met James Caan, the actor, who had just completed a scene for a movie. It was titled Henry’s Crime. He came off as a really nice guy. The scene was over but he hung around and spoke with us for sometime asking about our job. Movie was on Netflix. Married 29 years this May. I have 2 step children, 4 grand daughters. 2011 we moved him to Florida. After 7.5years, we’re now in Maryland. We wanted to be closer to the kids. Survived 4 serious health problems. Not overly religious but, thank God I’m here to be with these kids! Many old class mates have done some very impressive things. I salute them. When it’s my time I just want to be remembered as a good man. A good officer, husband, dad and grandpa. Still love hunting and fishing, watching college and professional lacrosse. Played at NYIT had a half year scholarship 73-74. Yankee,Ranger and Islander fan. My two older granddaughters were adopted from an orphanage in Vladivostok, Russia. Talk about collusion!!! My stepdaughter is a cancer survivor. She and her now ex-husband went to Russia to adopt one child. After the second trip they returned with two girls ages 2 and 3. They ‘re now 12 and 13. My daughter had to pick their birthdays. The orphanage didn’t know when they were born. They were just left with them. These kids didn’t know what Christmas was or Easter, let alone Halloween or Thanksgiving. Boy now they do! They knew Mickey Mouse in Russia. Over there if you’re not adopted by your 16th birthday, they put you out on the street. The state run orphanage was not good in providing good food or care. Kids from there suffer from emotional problems as well health. My daughter was told not to say anything bad about the place or the county if she called us. Plus she had to write a 500 word essay about what she admired about the Russian people! And people in this country say we’re So Bad!!My stepdaughter is now the Vice President of Marketing for Westfield Malls. Three malls in Maryland, one in New Jersey and one outside of Chicago. Newest mall added is at World Trade Center. In May of 13 she was on an episode of Tanked in the Annapolis Mall. It was her idea to have an aquarium built in the mall. This would be the only time they would do this. I met Wade King and Bret Ramer at a show in Daytona Beach and showed them a photo of them with my daughter. .Hung out at their booth and BS.’d.
