Evan Thomas, 1904 Welsh Revival ”Do I have a good life?” I think so. To illustrate the above statement; Christmas Day 2008. Those of us that live in the Minneapolis got together. We celebrated, first priority, The Christ and He is that to each one present. Present were two daughters and a son, two granddaughters, friends and Carol and me. One of my granddaughters who were there brought her fiancé. They had gotten engaged the day before. Always at the Yule celebration, we celebrate family and life with lots of good humor. We have a lot of food and fun. The other two daughters and another son and another two granddaughters who were not present with us created a similar day in Colorado and Oregon. Telephone connection allowed all of us to communicate and exchange assurances. “Did I have a good life?” These kinds of family gatherings constitute a capstone and a resounding shout of YES. How did we get to this point? A great first marriage that lasted 34 years. Remember the phrase? “Until death do us part” Well, it happened. After about two years another beautiful women came into my life. We have been married for 19 years. Few men have been so graced...Expand for more
by two charming women as wives for so long a time. Work. Notice, I made that a sentence all by itself. I had the privilege of work. Work brought me opportunities, adventure and education that could not be found anywhere else. I was first a farm laborer, as soon as I could be considered useful. My transition to large city life from rural life presented me with many more options. Through the years, I earned a living as a stevedore, shipper, meat packing house worker, miner, gandy dancer (on the railroad), sheet metal worker, pastor, printer, carpenter, teacher in a post secondary vocational school, outside salesman, ad agency manager, printing company manager, visitation pastor, delivery driver, small saw mill owner and operator and much, much more. I went to college for 6 years. In spite of that, I got educated. If anyone thinks work is too much of a challenge, they should try raising six kids. I think it was an unseen hand that guided and protected us all through all of this. Oh. “Did I have a good life?” It all depends on how one looks at it. I think I did. My parents and those who went before, laid the foundations, set the standard and example for what was to happen with us. They gave us the spark of life and we went out and did what we did and were what we were by virtue of what was given to us. A wind of motivation drove us. It came from what went before. The Wind of Inspiration that ignited us was not ours but His. “Did we have a good life?’ Now I will let you be the judge.".
